How to install Nvidia drivers with Puppy 2.15? |
|
When I run 3DCC I install DRM kernelmodules OpenGle, but DRI-graficscard drivers I can't because the manager cannot find it in the net.
I can't find it even with Google. What do I have to do? I am with GeForce FX 5200.

3DCC downloads and installs this file:
http://dotpups.de/dotpups/3D-Control-Center/InstallNvidia-Puppy-2.12-and-2.13.pup
You also can download it with seamonkey, and then click on it in rox to install it.
Then exit X, and type:
installnvidia

What shall I do to "exit X"? Type something somewhere (console perhaps)?

if there is no entry in the startmenu, hit the 3 keys CTRL-ALT-Backspace simultaneously to force X to shutdown.

This method does not offer me the 9631 driver, which I need to drive my GeForce MX 4000 card. Is there a way that I can install this driver?

nVIDIA is constantly releasing new versions of their Linux driver, to accommodate new chips as they are developed.
But the 9629 driver is no more than 6 months old, so unless your nVIDIA device is very new, the 9629 driver should work fine. I don't think the MX 4000 is very new.

Nope, I've tried both drivers offered, but it's the 9631 I need for the GeForce MX 4000.
Apparently there is no easy way to install the Nvidia driver from here:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_display_ia32_1.0-9631.html
Until there is, it's xvesa not xorg if I want to use Puppy, unfortunately.

I'm having a problem too. ( in 2.16)
I have the Nvidia driver downloaded and unpacked, but however I kill X I just get a blank screen, no prompt.
I'm using vesa, when I tried changing to xorg that also gave me a black screen.
How can I finish installing Nvidia ?

Try booting without x started automatically
at the initial boot screen type this without quotation marks "puppy pfix=nox"
