problem -no modem with puppy 1.02 (newbie)

#1 Post by davidw »

Hi

I have been using puppy 1.01 on a compaq armada notebook 128meg ram
with no problems. It has a internal PCI modem ( lucent ) and was detected
and working properly.

When I run puppy 1.02, the modem wizard no longer see the ttyLT0 and its
not a selectable option ( no buttons). So I cant get my modem working.

there seems to be only the stty serial ports and no ttyLT0 as a option
to test and set.

Any idea on how to select ttyLT0 ? and get modem working?

thanks in advance
David

There seem to be a few issues with the new kernel so you might have to wait until 1.0.3.

The Modem Wizard tells you that you have to download and install the Lucent PupGet package.

However, as you don't have Internet access, you can't download it, so you have to download using some other operating system.
You get it from the pupget_packages-1 folder on ibiblio.

After it is downloaded, bootup Puppy then use the PupGet package manager to install it -- there will be an option choose to install from a local directory.
So, the download package must be in a directory that is visible to Puppy, mounted if necessary.

...I realise, for Linux newbies these instructions will seem daunting!
