Make a bootable back up on CD-R of my frugal install

#1 Post by T_B »

I'd like to know if it is possible to make a bootable Puppy on CD-R with a pup_save.2fs (and webp2p.sfs) that I can use without any harddisk use.
So when my harddisk crashes I can still start my CD-R and use my pup_save.2fs with all my settings (like NVIDIA driver etc).
Of course this would also be a very secure way of using my PC, and could be very usefull.

I've tried this one myself using GRUB as the bootloader on the CD. Unfortunately, when Puppy detected the savefile on the CD, it tried to mount it as writable and failed. As an alternative, you could put the savefile on a flash drive.

I already guessed it would be impossible.
Of course I can set up a multisession cd/dvd, but that means I have to redo my whole installation (and I've installed and tweaked a lot) and need to maintain two installations.
Maybe there is a workaround?
