Reading your POSTs I got the bug to experiment with the Puppy. I bought 5 Dell thin clients that can be expanded to 256M of RAM, and went to another site and found 512MB of flash for $28. I have about a week from monday before it comes in.
What I want is input from you guys. It will be so painless to make mistakes I want to try stuff. First I'll just see if I can get it to work. I would like to host my kids BLOG/Sites on them just to see it work. I'm not worried about security since a reboot will pull it all right.
Comes guys give me some ideas. This is going to be fun.

One family and their Puppy Blog - I would create and document the whole process . . . Take pics of arriving equipment. Kids impressions (hey use the record function - let us hear those kids) - there is a recording of me somewhere)

I really enjoyed seeing the submarine guys and their Puppy efforts

Using Xampp Server
Guestoo has anticipated your need here. Take note that the first post is already uptodate (with the Xampp latest version).
Assuming your kids are using PHP and MySQL (and even Perl), it will be easy to publish interactive sites. Note that HTML and scripts should be put in /lampp/htdocs.
All you need for using scripts after installing Xampp are:
the absolute location of your htdocs
create database via phpmyadmin
password for mysql access (set via "lampp security" in console)
database user (usually "root")
"localhost" as name of your server
Browsing to localhost after "lampp start" will give you the Xampp and Phpmyadmin directions - it is that easy!

It looks as though Barry's changes have been included as part of 1.0.5.alpha2, so it might be worth waiting for the definitive version of 1.0.5. Marv's suggested mods might also help.

Damn! That's what I want to do!
I've been holding off from doing it though because looking at several thin clients it appears that they don't boot in the normal BIOS way - I know the IBM Netvista series has a proprietry boot system. It seems there has been progress made by people significantly more computer savvy than me in making the linux kernal bootable by these clients.
That said, if anyone has any advise on cheap thin clients that can boot from CD, USB or IDE that would be great.

Looks like the perfect system - unfortunately US$245 is out of my price range at the moment - but for what it is its pretty damn cheap. just the motherboard alone (OK admittely that is the majority of the system) is going for ~$225 second hand on ebay.
