How to get Puppy to boot to user login screen?

#1 Post by RunesS »

Now installed on HDD, and network and everything worked fine... 8)

Then i would create a user, so i didn't work as root... But nowhere could i find anything about user accounts and so on?

Did create an account, using the adduser command, but can only change with the SU command?

How do i get a log on screen on boot up, so i can pick user and so on...?

Best regards Rune B....

Sorry RunesS; Puppy doesn't have users, just root, & so there's no "su" command.

NathanF made a user login setup for GraphPup, try it!

Design-wise, Puppy is designed a personal single user distro, so there are no users and everyone automatically login as root.

There are variation of Puppy where users add users, but in general if you want multiple users, you should look into something other than Puppy (like Damn Small Linux).

Look for a lock icon on your desktop and right click on it and set a password. This allows you to lock your machine. I don't think it prevents a user from killing the windows manager using alt-ctrl-backspace.

Most PCs have a BIOS password so it won't boot at all without it.

Locking the PC while it's still running is always kinda hackable.
