iPup "Ice" 0.1 - 55 MB

#1 Post by Todd »

http://www.ipup.info

iPup is my attempt to make a version of Puppy that my wife can use in her classroom. Typically internet is the only thing that is needed. When "pakt" released his "BarelyPup", I fell in love. iPup "Ice" is BarelyPup with IceWeasel. I have chosen IceWeasel because of it's smaller size and because it is GPL. With this setup, I can load iPup onto a 128 MB flash drive and have about 60 MB left for the pup_save.sfs file.

New on version 0.1:
Updated to a simplified package installer
Added glibc-2.4, which stops Flash from crashing

8) Many thanks for providing this.

If you can provide Iceweasel that would be good for the future (someone is sure to ask)

I wonder if this would be a good basis for Rhinos "GooglePup" - I think that is in "cutting edge" forum - though I think he is going with the "Flock" browser

I took a look at ipup, but it did have iceweasel and did not have wireless stuff. I thought I might be better off starting from scratch.

I really like the idea of ipup though...excellent work!

I was really bummed when "muggins" shared with me that Gnash (the open source version of Flash) doesn't really work. (See the discussion at: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=14056) It was my hope to create a completely GPL/LGPL puplet. (As it stands, iPup is completely GPL/LGPL, but one must install Flash to view most web pages, thus nullifying the whole reason for building iPup with Iceweasel rather than Firefox.)
