Small Puppy Subject description: Is it poss to get puppy to work with only 64mb |
|
Dear Any techy person
i have got a laptop with only 64Mb. i have got this laptop to work with puppy running on a CF card for a hard drive, and i have got a swap file on the CF card too.
This is not the best idea but its working. As i don't need all the apps that are in puppy is it poss to only have a small x windows with only .....
word prosessor
spread sheet
power pres
file manager
USB support (for mouse, keyboard, usb stick)
NIC support (pcmcia)
And thats all to run with 64 Mb of ssytem ram. working with no swop file. ?
Any ideas ? i have been thinking of trying to make my own puppy by doing something like com-plies (i had plies and its no fun) , i have only been using Linux for about 2 years now, but only as a "user" i have never tried compling my own OS before. but thats another post.

Try iPup or MU's Micromuppy. Both are quite small but still usable. In the case of Micromuppy, just add the appropriate dotpup applications to give you your office applications - maybe office lite from PETget.
Hope that helps.

How does myPup run on 64mb of RAM? Is the performance decent? I'm working on getting it a little smaller, and I will update it to the 2.18 version of Puppy if all goes well in the near future.
