Looking For Distro Creator (Will Compensate)

#1 Post by MH »

Greetings!

I'm interested in a Web browsing-only Puppy, probably based on BarelyPup. Can even more of the remaining apps be removed? And Firefox (or more appropriate browser) added?

But (possibly) the biggest request of all: separate out the wizards and setup programs into a different distro (a "configurator"), leaving only an optimized Puppy. Boot from one to (re-)configure the other, then boot from the (re-)configured distro. Hoping to make it as small and fast-loading as possible.

I think I can pay up to 100USD for this. And/or donate older Dell Dimension PC(s) or possibly other hardware. (This is near Chicago, IL, USA)

I'm thinking mostly of browsing or using Web apps, but not that concerned about using a *lot* of apps (e-mail, Web-based bookmarks, maybe documents/spreadsheets).

Would appreciate any interest and/or input.

Thanks!

Mark

Start with barelypup and what is pizzaspups remove apps called? Will that work?

We all start off saying "We can't do it" - then we do :)

add browser

#3 Post by raffy »

You can start with barelypup then add a browser of your choice from a dotpup, pet, or an installer. A .pup works by just clicking on it. Then run the remaster from within barelypup.

I guess if you have not done it yet by this time (it's easy), I can help you. You can write me for any more concerns via raffymn (at) ya h o o (dot) c o m. Then if we finish it, we donate the payment to Barry.

Thanks for the quick responses; they're *all* appreciated!

Lobster: I agree, and really would like to get the experience/skill with this; I'm just up against some difficult time constraints for a while (job/home/family, etc.), and I'm looking at this for an Internet Cafe at my job (church denomination headquarters). It remains a hope in the future for me, though.

Raffy: I kind of had you in mind for this, as I've looked at your work with minipup. I also think of you and donating equipment: didn't you once write about encouraging a visit to the Phillipines and bringing some PCs? :) Would love to provide some but don't think I'll be able to swing the trip. But maybe there's an alternative. I really like the idea of the $ going to Barry. Let me follow-up with you later.

David: thanks for the reference. I think I came across this last night but for some reason (too tired?) I didn't connect. Maybe it's also my interest in splitting the configuration distro from the browsing distro. But this will stay on my radar.

Again, thanks for your responses!

Take a look at Icepup (http://www.icepup.info). If it is close to what you are looking for, we can talk. (I have a form at http://www.toddrichardson.com/ that you can use to contact me.)

Sincerely,

Todd

Thanks, Todd!

That's a nice-looking and cleverly-named Puppy. I'm going to try working with Raffy on this for now, but if we decide I need to do something else, I'll certainly keep this in mind.

In the meantime, best of luck with Icepup!

By the way, David, I should also add that I've long admired Rhino's Puppy videos and the contribution that they make.

(And thanks to all who've contributed so much to Puppy and what he represents)!
