Playback Stops Early: ESS1879

#1 Post by buridan »

First, let me say Puppy 2.17 is working quite well, overall, except for the sound.
I have an old Sager portable with an ESS1879 chip. The snd-es1688 module works better than the snd-es18xx, so I use the former. However, when playing a wav or mp3 file, each time I use the "play" command, the playback stops at exactly the same spot. (The spot is not the same from boot to boot, though.) I've inserted various irq's, etc. with modprobe but nothing seems to work. The "play" program goes only so far, stops, and reports "Done." The program ends early, rather than hanging. The music file is not damaged or truncated. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Dave

Playback Stops Early Solved

After noticing a kind of fluttering of a text box for the mounting program for Puppy (when mounting the thumb drive with the music files in question), I put the files on another thumb drive and the problem disappeared. Sorry I didn't try that earlier.
