Sub_title: don't see hebrew text in abiword

how to get hebrew letters to be seen and printed in abiword
my wife is a hebrew teacher in our jewih school. She makes work lists for children herself. I do have hebrew support in Openofficeorg in alt linux( wich is on my computer), but i like puppy so much and abiword is enough for us.

Go to system->mouse/keyboard wizard, then select the advanced configuration.
Add the "il" layout to the settings (I hope you're using Xorg...), then add a modifier, so you can change between layouts (ctrl+alt etc).

After that, changing to the "il" layout when using Abiword should make it display Hebrew chars -- but only for the unicode fonts -- Dejavu and Bitstream Vera (if you've got it).

If you want more fonts, you can either install the MS fonts (instructions elsewhere on the forum) or add the Culmus fontpack -- just get a Slackware package of it and install as an elien package, then run make sure the path the fonts installed to is listed among the font paths: open Gxset from the menu. If the path isn't listed it, add the sleect "save".
then run "fc cache -f" from the commandline. (I've written instructions on how to do all this in the past)

You can open /etc/X11/xorg.conf and add "il" to the XkbLayout line.
Yes, there's no problem adding fonts from other places, but you'll need to update the font config files:
In the directory where you put the fonts, you'll need to run "mkfontdir" and "mkfontscale". You'll also need to run "fc-cache -f".
(If the directory the fonts go in doesn't exist, you'll have to add it to the font path first)
