Pup105

Has anyone heard when Puppy 1.0.5 will be ready.
Has Barry had a post that I missed?

The guys have requested a pre-release version first, so I will upload 1.0.5rc (release candidate) "soon".

1.0.5rc

Yup. And if a lot of people are doing some heavy testing with 1.0.5rc, we
have the change to get a very stable and tested 1.0.5 release version...

I found the following small apps VERY useful:
8kb - puppyPDF.pup - Creates easily pdf docs from abiword, text, etc..
21kb -ticker004.pup - shows a news channel type information window..

I would like to vote, to have this included in 1.0.5, since they are so small
and could increase the value of puppy even more..

PS
Have fun :)

I would vote to leave as many applications as possible as dotpups, include only the bare minimum of well-proven applications in the basic Puppy, and perhaps improve how dotpups are presented to the first-time Puppy user.

I agree.
Me too. A unified DotPup/PupGet would be better still.

Fully agree that we should have a minimal puppy to start with - easier on downloads, faster RAM runs & less cluttered menus.

Dotpups being easier to install would definitely help.
I reckon there should be a button from the main PupGet package manager which launches the dotpup page (no need for 2 icons on start menu):
http://www.goosee.com/puppy/wikka/dpup
(Not http://www.goosee.com/puppy/wikka/DotPup as now)
Also have mozilla associate .pups with dotpuprox.sh, as I explain here:
http://www.murga.org/%7Epuppy/viewtopic.php?t=2193

However the PDFprint dotpup does seem worth adding - extremely tiny, won't clutter menus & extremely useful!

Default apps:
I love the way that puppy-1.05a2 has desktop icons pointing to /usr/local/bin/defaultbrowser, etc
This makes it easier to switch apps...however would be great if we had a GUI for setting the defaults...I'd like to see this as part of the Package Manager if possible (especially for Unleashed - don't want to raise the barrier for development of dotpups).
I'd even consider having the initial state of these scripts be a little chooser app.
e.g. "The default browser with Puppy is 'Mozilla' - hit 'OK' to continue with this or 'Change' to download an alternative."
This then sets the script to just run Mozilla, or to whichever browser is downloaded (Firefox, Opera, Dillo, whatever)

My 50Mb build needs to be updated, I am sure I can find room to squeeze those two apps in ;-)

associate .pups with dotpuprox.sh
i think this is too convenient, and therefore too dangerous

a web link to a dotpup file looks like any other link, and can say anything ... it does not have to say that clicking the link will automatically download and run a program

this would be almost as convenient as ActiveX

dotpuprox is only the default association - can still choose another action.
Anyway, dotpuprox in it's default incarnation is hardly 'automatic':
'md5sum ok. Unzip?'
'Do Not Run! Run installer?'
'Delete dotpup?'

Not exactly happening behind your back...

PS Sure, if using Lobster's streamlined dotpup installer, then it's more automatic, but if you've got the nouse to switch to this then you should be OK with the Mozilla prompt of 'Run with dotpuprox.sh or Download'

I agree with a small 50MB live CD. Would someone create a separate CD with all the official dotpups in it. It would be really hard for me as a user who seldom connects to the internet and just depending on internet cafes to get my dotpups. So the Popget manager will just point the application to be installed from the package cd. Just an idea. :) Anyone is free to have any violent reactions :D

Hey, I like the idea of a "showcase puppy"
all the dotpups and pupgets preinstalled !!!
This would be great!!!!!
If anybody makes it, let me get the torrent to help share the iso !!!
Heaven is on the way, until then let's get the truth out!
