1.0.4: no sound from onboard Via 3xxx, AC97

I dont know if this is a bug or not,but I have no sound at all on my computer running 1.04.This computer has a via 3xxx,AC97 controller onboard,and ,oddly enough,1.04 worked on my laptop with the same chipset....I simply have no sound.Any suggestions?I know my way around puppy preety well,so I have no problems modifying things.
