Gxine 0.4.8

Gxine 0.4.8

it seems to work in Puppy 1.0.5rc

to play movies full screen:
press F to switch to full screen when the gxine window first appears, before the movie starts playing
then you can switch between full screen and window mode anytime while the movie is playing by pressing F again

just installed it on puppy 1.0.4 - works.

sometimes it crashes when switching to fullscreen, sometimes it works.

It seems if I switch to fullscreen once before playing a video, and then back to see the controls and hit "play", it runs stable and I can switch fullscreen on/off without problems afterwards.

Well done :)

if you click a movie file
the gxine window should appear
then the movie will start playing

if you press F to switch to full screen
after the gxine window appears, but before the movie starts playing
(you have to be quick, there is not much time)
then gxine seems to work ok and you can switch between full screen and a window

if you switch to full screen after the movie starts playing, it will often crash

this workaround seems to work with 0.4.6 and 0.4.7 too

this should be a clue for the gxine developers

the package just has the gxine executables ... i did not include any library files or plugins ... so i am not sure that it will run ok with the other files that are already installed (and of course, the package is not complete gxine installation ... it just upgrades the gxine that is already installed in Puppy ... if you don't already have gxine installed, it won't work)

by the way, the sxfe xine player on the same webpage works in Puppy ... i think it's only about 7k

it's a bit limited, you can't fast forward or rewind or pause the movie ... it plays in a maximixed window, almost like full screen

the gxine-installer-bin where sxfe is installs gxine 0.3.4 in it's own folder, with it's own library files ... it plays full screen in Puppy without crashing ... it's bigger than mplayer, so i haven't bothered with it

That sxfe is a commandline app?
If so, how would you tell it to play a dvd?
