Yes, I think Chinese is getting popular among non-native Chinese. People want to learn Chinese but they don't want Chinese menu in Puppy. I just made a pet package just for you guys.
Firstly, you have to install Unicode font. Please refer to
http://puppylinux.org/wikia/LanguageSupport
Look the section: G2: Th show documents in International fonts
Make sure you can read Chinese by cliking a Chinese web site.
Secondly, download the pet package I have made:
Ftp site: ftp.servage.net
user: puppy
pass: linux
directory: Chinese_puppy
file name: chinese_input-0.01.pet
Thirdly, install the pet package and reboot your computer.
Once your computer is booted, you can try to input Chinese by opening Leafpad or Abiword and hit "Ctrl + Space".
Note:
Unfortunately, the Chinese IM (Scim) setup menu is in Chinese. I have trouble to make it to display in English. The default locale is set to zh_TW.UTF-8, therefore the menu is in Traditional Chinese. If you want to display it in Simplified Chinese, you need to change the locale to zh_CN.UTF-8.
Have fun

Hi cecc,
Do you mean you'll test it with fresh Puppy in "en_US" environment?
I don't know it will work under Chinese Puppy.

Smart Pinyin |
|
Thanks for making this pet.
It works fine on 2.17.1, but the Smart Pinyin input method seems missing. I think the Smart Pinyin input method is very popular among those who know a little Chinese and those who want to study Chinese, so I would appreciate it very much if the next version could include it.
Thanks for your consideration.

Hi Woodys,
I made the Smart Pinyin input method package for Scim.
You can download it from:
Ftp server name: ftp.servage.net
User: puppy
passwd: linux
directory: Chinese_puppy
program name: scim-pinyin_0.5.91-i486.pet
Note: You have to install "chinese_input-0.01.pet" package first.
Then you install this Smart Pinyin package.
If you have any problem, please let me know.
Have fun

It works great. Much appreciated.
Previously I used these four pup packages at
http://freeforums.bizhat.com/index.php?mfo...om&showtopic=90
They also work in Puppy 2.17.1.
Thanks again.

Hi Woodys,
The mentioned link doesn't have the packages any more.
By the way, I found a way for scim to display its menu in English. Go to /usr/share/locale/zh_CN/LC_MESSAGES and /usr/share/locale/zh_TW/LC_MESSAGES, and rename/delete the following files:
scim.mo
scim-tables.mo
After that, you shoud see English menu.

By the way, this Chinese input PET package is only tested under 2.17. I am not
sure it will work on 3.00. Puppy Linux 3.00 has newer kernel.
