DRI Module Load Problem

#1 Post by pupquest »

Hello,
I've loaded the 3D Control Center and installed the DRI drivers. But I get the following in bootsysinit.log (see the "loading x dri modules" error below):

Mounting devpts: Mounting /sys: Starting /etc/rc.d/rc.modules...
loading modules for core usb...
loading modules for pci interfaces...
loading module via-agp

loading module via-ircc

loading module snd-via82xx

loading module via-rhine

loading modules for pcmcia...
loading x dri modules...
Usage: modprobe.bin [-v] [-V] [-C config-file] [-n] [-i] [-q] [-b] [-o <modname>] <modname> [parameters...]
modprobe.bin -r [-n] [-i] [-v] <modulename> ...
modprobe.bin -l -t <dirname> [ -a <modulename> ...]

Appreciate any help.
Thanks,
Martin

Along with the above condition suddenly I have no Xorg.0.log generated(?). Does this make sense? The display seems to launch Xvesa as a default but I don't have any record of the xserver load. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Martin

Graphics card is Via CLE266 (part of their EPIA ME6000G mboard). Puppy version is 2.17. Thanks tempestuous...

It sounds like you are running Xvesa?
To first make sure Xorg is running, exit X with <Control><Alt><Backspace> then type "xorgwizard", then "Enter".

Then run 3DCC again.

Yes, I'm currently limited to running Xvesa. I did run the xorgwizard and was able have it create the xorg.0.log. I'll post the output warnings, etc. later today.
Thanks.

The via DRI (3D) driver has a quirk in that Xorg.0.log does not report whether it's running.
You need to run "glxinfo" and "xdriinfo"
I think these are installed as part of the 3D control centre (?). Try

Code: Select all

/usr/local/3DCC/resource/glxinfo
and

Code: Select all

/usr/local/3DCC/resource/xdriinfo
If these utilities are not available, they can be installed as part of the glxgears-pup1x.pup from
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 0828#80828

You want to see something like "direct rendering: Yes"

Regarding the XvMC error in your Xorg.0.log, pakt reports that XvMC can be enabled by adding this text under Section "Module" of your xorg.conf -

Code: Select all

Subsection "extmod"
    Option "omit xfree86-dga"
EndSubsection
But XvMC is only useful for DVD (MPEG2) video playback. It won't make any difference to 3D performance.

Thanks for the pointers, Tempestuous. I apologize for the delay but I got pulled in other directions over the past week. The good news is I've got puppy recognizing my internal 802.11g card. If I can just get this Xorg/CLE266 issue resolved, I'll have the system I've been hoping for. I need to step back and reinstall the 3dcc over the next day or two. I'll post results of your suggested glx and xdriinfo utilities.

Just to close up this issue... I installed Puppy 3.01 and my CLE266 chip is now automatically recognized and configured correctly by the xorgwizard. Excellent! Thanks for all your help.
