2007-10-15
UPDATE: .PET to add icons to XFCE menu

2007-10-14
UPDATE: .PET to update the menu to match base Puppy

XFCE-4.4.1rev1.sfs - 20meg
http://files.filefront.com/xfce+441+rev1sfs/;8790954;/fileinfo.html

md5sum - 4dbbed2ce61b411ffc15deadb7b69415

Updates:
Logout / Restart / Shutdown dialog fixed
Startup notification added (for supporting programs)
Most of the XFCE icons working in the menu
Recompiled and reordered directories - if you have the devx.sfs loaded, you should be able to compile panel-plugins.
Edit menu to better organize the puppy programs
Get the Puppy program icons working in menu

To-Do:
"Attempt" to reduce the size. I'm afraid there will not be much to go without loosing functionality.
Repackage SFS file with added icon/menu fixes

I have also included some compiled, ready to install plugins to get you going.

Also, here is a list of extensions and the appropriate program to open when using thunar

.tgz .tar.gz .bz2 .zip - xarchive
.pup - dotpuprox.sh
.pet - petget
.sfs .2fs .iso - filemnt
---note: edit /usr/sbin/filemnt line -- rox -d $MntPt - to say thunar $MntPt -- to use thunar to open mounted files

Have fun,
JB

P.S. MU - Thank you for the mirror, sorry to update so soon.

I'm using xfce 4.2.3.2 package from dougal .....

It's about 1 MB .... why your package is so big ??

giac_fab,

XFCE 4.4 has alot more features which require more libraries. The Slackware 12.0 package is 19 meg alone.

I also used to use the 1-meg version. Aside from the new version having more than the standard 4.2.3.2, the version Dougal proved was very stripped down.

this was just a basic compile and could probably use a little polish

Fix the shutdown dialog:
Install the "sudo" package from PetGet
Create a new script called "shutdown" in the "/sbin" directory and copy this code:
    Code:
    #!/bin/sh
    if [ $1 == "-r" ];then
       exec /usr/X11R7/bin/wmreboot
    else
       exec /usr/X11R7/bin/wmpoweroff
    fi

Problem with "xfce" theme engine:
    Move /usr/local/lib/gtk-2.0 to /usr/lib

wow,

Thank you for your suggestions - I was wondering how to get the Logout / Restart / Shutdown to work. I implemented your script, but did not get any change. (note: I did chmod +x /sbin/shutdown)

2 ideas:

Have you installed [sudo-1.6.8p12.pet]?

Start X with
Code:
xwin startxfce4

I got it to work -

I did install the sudo....pet package. The other thing I had to do was create an /etc/sudoers file (I actually just stole the one from my Slackware installation)
I don't believe sudo was working with out it.

JB

And yes, I do start with "xwin startxfce4" also.

Hi

Ok .... tried it

I think it's a little bit nicer than the one I talked about (the one made by dougal) .

I think that the only two things i need in xfce are :

1- panel

2- taskbar

I don't need to have a lot of unuseful things ( autostarted applications manager, splash screen, configurations manager, thunar filemanager, xfdesktop and others) that make my puppy fat and a little bit slower.

This xfce also seems to miss some panel-plugins that I think are very useful :

1. system load ( cpu - ram -swap )
2. net load
3. space checker ( i use it to monitor my pup_save space )

Hello

Hi , I tried to install xfce to puppy 3.00 (old and new version) , but all I get is the task bar and nothing else. I read some older posts , done everything they said but the problem remains.
