Puppy freezes after mouse movement (Solved)

#1 Post by titus_a_duxass »

Using 1.0.4 Mozilla & chubby.
Bog Standard PC.

Booted up from the CD everything ran okay until the videeo wizard.
I soon as a move the mouse the system locks.
I can Ctrl+Alt+Bckspc out to the command line and restart the GUI but again with any mouse movement the system locks.

I have tried searching, but I don't know if it is a mouse induced failure or an install failure.

Any clues?

Thanks
Titus

Is it a bog standard mouse? What sort?
What sort of bug standard video card is being used?

Try it on another computer. If OK then we have to work out what is happening on your system. If the same thing happens on another system then we can suspect a bad CD. SO far I feel we need to have more details of what hardware you have? Just tell us - we will not laugh, report it to the authorities or use it any way whatsoever . . . except to try and help . . .

And hi - welcome to the kennels. Hope we get you to go woof soon :)

There is a bug with the X server.
After X has started, if the very first movement of the mouse is to the left
and down (diagonal), it can hang the window manager.
Both Fvwm95 and JWM.

Try to make the very first movement of the mouse pointer to the right,
see if that makes any difference.

Thanks for the quick replies.

Okay after some messing about I have found out that it is the keyboard that is causing the problems.

I have a German qwertz keyboard and if I select DE in the keyboard options everything goes pear shaped.

If I select UK or US then the system works but the keyboard is all fubarred. The Q is an A, A is a Y, the numbers can only be got by using shift + the number required.

This is everything for our German friends,
http://www.goosee.com/puppy/wikka/GermanLanguage

There may be a clue there - better support for locals is coming in Puppy 1.0.5 - that may help. 27 /28 Sept

Barry is the creator of Puppy so follow his advice. Good luck.

Okay fixed!
I reset the keyboard to DE qwertz, rebooted.
Did the first movement up and right with the mouse and it works now.

Thanks
