Note: Compiled without xdamage support.
Also, move xlock icon down, to above pupzip or conky will cover xlock icon.

For puppy3 nothing else is needed. For puppy 4 (dingo) libxcb and libidn are needed.

Subject description: Problem under Puppy 4.0 Alpha1

Thank you for your efforts. Conky works fine under Puppy 3.01. Using Puppy 4.0 Alpha1, Conky does not work. It appears a needed library is missing. Since Puppy 4.0 is still at the Alpha1 stage for testing. This is not a serious problem. I will check the operation of Conky when the next test version of Puppy 4.0 is released.

Here is the error message that occurs under Puppy 4.0 alpha1.
conky: error while loading shared Libraries: libidn.so.11: cannot open
shared object file: No such file or directory

Just downloaded and tried by executing the two referenced commands by hand.
It sets in the upper right corner, but covers the cons which are there.
Is this normal?

yes, conky creates its own window at upper right hand of screen or else it will flicker alot. The xlock icon should be moved down or it will be repositioned on reboot, or if ezpup is installed, the icon(s) will have to be moved to another area of the desktop.

for rawpup type in ldd /usr/local/bin/conky in a terminal, that will list all required dependencies, for libidn here the package http://www.linuxpackages.net/pkg_details.php?id=5101 any of conkys dependencies should be found on linuxpackages or http://packages.slackware.it

needs qiv to work, puppy 3 has this.
4.0 Alpha1 doesn't have qiv. Does this mean that just the background setter will fail or conky as well?

just tried in 4.0 Alpha1
Code:
# ldd /usr/local/bin/conky | grep 'not found'
        libidn.so.11 => not found
        libxcb-xlib.so.0 => not found
        libxcb.so.1 => not found
# find /usr -name "*idn*"
/usr/lib/python2.5/encodings/idna.py
/usr/lib/python2.5/encodings/idna.pyc
/usr/lib/python2.5/encodings/idna.pyo
# find /usr -name "*xcb*"
#

I haven't tried copying the libs in from an earlier version yet but it might work.

idn - http://www.linuxpackages.net/pkg_details.php?id=5101
xcb - http://www.linuxpackages.net/pkg_details.php?id=10731
qiv - http://www.linuxpackages.net/pkg_details.php?id=10168

conky without qiv, conky will work but there will be a black box behind conky.

I love this utility! In a future version, if you could include a temperature readout for the CPU it would be perfect and allow me to drop wmpower.

Thanks!

To get the temperature to display you will need to load the thermal module
Code:
modprobe thermal
each time you boot before you start conky

@Trapster: What file do you edit to load Conky when using XFCE? I've tried all the usual suspects with no luck. Thanks in advance!
