[obsolete] Compiz-Fusion Puplet for testing -- aka "W... Subject description: [superceded by newer version] |
|
version 0.2 now available - forum topic here.
********************************************************
Here is what I have done so far: wNOP.iso hosted by Caneri (md5.txt)
Mirror: wNOP.iso at CoBlitzed
Torrent: wNOP.iso.torrent at Linuxtracker
It's based on NOP 3.01 and is about 130MB.
This is basically whats been added:
wow's october compiz test dotpet
The CCSM (settings manager) and Python.
Xorg7.2 DRI modules
Xorg7.2 OpenGL
Some bugfixes for ATI setups and Compiz itself.
Proprietary nVidia drivers (x3) (cos OSS drivers don't do AIGLX)
My own Compiz-Fusion wizard script (/usr/sbin/cfwizard)
The cfwizard script is run at the end of xorgwizard and sets up the appropriate configuration (xorg.conf, modules, drivers, etc). It currently relies on simple text-pattern matching, I'm really not sure how many cards this method will successfully detect. Perhaps there's a better way?
At the moment Compiz is started from the beginning of .xinitrc This is a compromise as on my machine it causes the taskbar to be hidden until the first mouse click. When I started Compiz from a later script (startxfce maybe) there would be an ugly moment of no window decorations.
Currently wNOP has been tested as working on these graphics cards:
Stable:
ATI Radeon 9550
ATI Mobility Radeon 9000
ATI Radeon Mobility 7500
nVidia GeForce 5200
Nvidia Geforce MX 440
Nvidia 6150se
Probably all nVidias
Possibly unstable:
geforce 2 mx 400
nvidia GeForce 6200
And as not working "out of the box" on:
Probably most integrated intels -- but for simple fix read further on
All 5th generation ATIs -- can be fixed with a driver download, howto is here.
If anybody finds this works or fails (completely, or just "out of the box") on any other cards I'd love to hear. It'd be great to get this working on as many cards as possible
If you try it and it doesn't work, it would be really helpful if you could download, unzip and run the attached program -- wNOPinspect.tar.gz
and then post the file it creats -- wNOPdump.tar.gz

I am wobbling in with a Nvidia Geforce MX 440
Keep up the good work - more testers required
I tried to do this with Shard - you have succeeded
Nice

booted up and detected my card perfectly made a video with my camera will upload tomorrow if i get a chance I showed how to install themes for emerald and otherwize did a quick demo
emerald keeps crashing when you do certain effects like shade or expose
cpu usage is maxed out when a you maximize or restore a window...

Have lost the wobble . . .
What did I do?
tried adding sfs
shutdown and rebooted . . .
What I suspect is a config file is being overwritten and so compiz is no longer running
Your experience . . . ?
Suggestions?
Solutions?

Thanks for the confirmations Brilliant, it works!
I've updated the links to puppylinux.ca, thanks for that Caneri
Okay, so it appears to detect and setup nVidia cards no problem, that's good because they're probably the most common cards.

Mmm, maxed out CPU, no doubt a factor in those crashes. I wonder, have you had compiz working on your card on ordinary puppy? If so what was your setup, I'm thinking specifically of your xorg.conf and compiz arguments.
Lobster
Lost the wobble! Okay, we gonna need 13mg of disodium morphate, check ABC, CPR and CLEAR! *defibrillate shock*, *and another!*. Pulse?
Okay, now we're stable let's have a closer look. Which .sfs was it? At which point is compiz failing?
1. Is Xorg working, or just Xvesa?
2. Is DRI active?
2a. If not why? (/var/log/Xorg.0.log OR /tmp/xerrs.log)
3. Does
or
work?
3a. If not what is their command-line output?
Anyone
ATI or Intel testers out there?

YO! I got YO intel info bro...
I haven't messed with compiz in a few week (no time) but here is some info in an intel chip (integrated) glxgears works (900fps) but dri is not active according to glxinfo
as far as on my nvidia card actually I doubt that it is a factor in the crashes because it seems to be part of window resizing and the CPU spikes are not at the same time it crashes....they are only momentary anyway but would be good to cut them out. emeral would ocassionally crash on me but seems more common in wNOP and i was starting compiz with autostart and the references in compiz-manager to metacity should be changed to xfwm4 so it will start up if compiz fails
I also reccomend that there be a restart compiz and restart emerald button on the icon bar thing at the top
EDIT: the fps benchmark kills my wobble turn it off and it comes back

I have since disabled it
