I apologise no-one has answered your query yet.

"jonyo" has got that Acer travelmate 2420, he may be able to help.

a few questions:

is your router setup with encryption?
if so which one?
if so try and see if you can configure it yourself to try a test with no encryption. something to consider if you only want to keep casual piggy backer off your connection is using mac address white list security, it's not as good as wep or wpa but for low level jobs it could be the temporary answer.

have you tried the network wizard?
if not give it a shot at menu>network>network wizard.

have you tried dynamic ip?
if not give that a shot.

have you tried the machine at some other hotspot?
if not there are wifi hotspots that are free, and a list for your area can be gotten from several sites, just search for 'wifi hotspot'.

one other idea, try an older version of puppy like 2.13 as a test, if the card works there then try 3.00 retro.
so much to learn, so late a start.

I had a similar prob with Puppy 3.00 and a different Broadcom card, but it was cured when I changed from entering the WEP this way:-
iwconfig eth0 key adhrt56cduigh

to entering it like this:-
iwconfig eth0 key "s:adhrt56cduigh"

So just preceding the key by the inverted comma, and the s, and the colon - that made the key work and I was up and away on the internet.
