Puppy Logo Contest |
|
I have been given the power of owning the LatestNews page on the wikka.
And have decided to create a contest for a logo for the page.
A panel of judges will decide the winner.
You can submit your images/logo's here.
The judges will meet in the chatroom, at a time that will be determined later.
These are the judges
KlhRevolutionist
Lobster
MU
Nathan F.
Mr. Doolie
raffy
The deadline for entries is October 12th 2005
On that day the judges will make their decision
Be creative & remember it's for the LatestNews wikka page.
You can get a bunch of programs that are available as dotpups
or go here to create your logo

I'm not good with graphics so I will leave that to others. But ideas comes to mind. We got the traditional idea of the dog who comes to his master with the latest newspaper. So something along the lines of the Puppy with the flower in his mouth, just swap the flower with a paper? On the other hand LatestNews clearly has something to do with the spearhead of time, so maybe something with more speed and drama. A running greyhound with a paper in his mouth? Maybe not

I made this one a while back. It's low-res, so I may redo it.

Are there any specs for this?
I envisage that a news site should have a horizontal banner (468x60).
Puppy Linux in general needs a logo and standard buttons, etc. Perhaps that can be a separate competition.
Is it true that one of the judges (Lobster) is open to bribes?

klhrevolutionist PMed me that my picture was too big. I sent him a reply, but I feel it should also be mentioned for the public record.

You should prefer higher res images. Seriously.
It's very easy to shrink an image. Like two clicks in any image editing app. Its nearly impossible to increase the quality.
True, you may want a smaller image for web display. But what if someone wants to use the logo in print, such as on a Puppy CD case?
I've been in competetions where the required submission size was 4500x3375, and poster size work requires 7500x10000.
"Too big" should not be part of the critera. |

That's why it would be helpful to have specs, ie image size and resolution.

I'd say that the logo should first be designed as large as the largest possible use would require, whether that might be a cd, t-shirt or billboard. It doesn't necessarily have to be submitted at full resolution for this contest, however.
I applaud Keenard as he's the only one who has actually submitted a logo so far.

New Puppy Logo |
|
Greetings:
Here is the contribution from my daughter. If you all decide that it is what you want, I might be able to convince her to do a complete official theme.
There are two versions. One with a black background and one with a white background. The logo will work well with dark or light backgrounds.

Psr1: Those are GREAT! I'm going to use them even if they do not become an official part of Puppy.

here is a roxicon based on the last logo.
I had problems getting it "real" round (without pixelized borders).
The solution (for dark backgrounds):
After I pasted as new a round selection, I added a circle as a second layer, slightly larger than the Logo-circle, and filled it with black.
Then when you save as png, both layers are combined, and the border of the first layer gets pseudo-antialiased.
I add a screenshot that shows the result with and without this second layer.
I also add a gif for light backgrounds.

Freaking. Awesome.
One little thing: the bottom right of the left toe has a small bump. Other than that, I can't find anything wrong with them. Your daughter has major skill.
That button is sweet too! There is a very high likelyhood that is going to wind up in Pizzapup.
