WINE disappeared today, reinstalled and now I get an error

#1 Post by jcagle »

WINE disappeared on me today.

I had checked to make sure that WINE wasn't installed in the folders that are loaded in RAM. I had rebooted quite a few times and WINE had been running fine each time. Today I tried to run WINE and it wasn't there.

I have reinstalled WINE, but now I get this message when I try to use it.
Couldn't open required GL library /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1.3.400!
err:seh:setup_exception stack overflow 0 bytes in thread 0009 eip 40f5b52d esp 4 0581000 stack 0x40580000-0x40680000
First of all, why would WINE just disappear on me like that when I had it installed and made sure it worked after rebooting.

Second of all, what do I need to do to get this working again?

I think I had this GL-error too, but it disappeared when I ran winecfg.

But I have no idea why it disappeared on your system?

I'm trying to run winecfg and it still gives me that same error.

hmm.. I think one of the first programs I ran was "wine notepad.exe", which is supplied with wine.
Maybe this sets things up somehow?

I have no other idea, I also erased Wine today because I ran out of space.

I might reinstall tomorrow, as I just installed puppy to harddrive, but currently I test broken selfcompiled kernels and cannot boot that one...

Well I've checked to see if /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1.3.400 exists and I see that it doesn't.

Maybe if I can find this file WINE will be working again.

I don't have this file either, but other versions.

Did you take the same RPM as last time?

hm, just installed it again on the new system.

It is nearly new, except I already installed the xorg-xserver and some compiler-tools.

After unrpm I run winecfg, and the configpanel shows up.
I choose /root/.wine as "C:". Oops that was wrong, should be /root/.wine/drive_c , but does not matter.

notepad.exe runs anyway.

Maybe you should delete the old wine-files:

/root/.wine
/usr/bin/wineXXX
/usr/lib/wine/ and the libwine...
/usr/share/wine

Then install again.
Another thought, did you use usr_devx.sfs last time?

not familiar with user_dev.sfs, so I guess not.

I tried deleting those files and reinstalling, then running winecfg. I'm getting this.
wine: creating configuration directory '/root/.wine'...
Couldn't open required GL library /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1.3.400!
err:seh:setup_exception stack overflow 16 bytes in thread 0009 eip 40ab252d esp 40560ff0 stack 0x40560000-0x40660000
wine: wineprefixcreate failed while creating '/root/.wine'.
# wineserver: could not save registry branch to /root/.wine-xrDVvf/system.reg : No such file or directory
wineserver: could not save registry branch to /root/.wine-xrDVvf/user.reg : No such file or directory

ok, run it again.
I think sometimes it throws errors first time, but next time it is ok.

I had a "missing GLX"-Error first time I ran winecfg, but then it disappeared.

Is it possible I may have lost stuff when I made /root larger today?

ok, I backed up everything in /root, deleted the pup001 file and then started again.

WINE is working well now.

ok, I think I found out the source of my problems...PAWM. I just ran PAWM and now I can't run WINE again. I get the same error as before.

I didn't like PAWM very much anyway.

if it was my pawm dotpup you installed, it does not seem to install any libGL files ... or in fact, any library files at all

I can't remember if it was your dotpup or not. I don't think it was from the dotpup though. I think the problem came after I ran PAWM the first time, not just from installation. And it doesn't seem like any libGL files were installed...it seems like one libGL file was taken away instead.

but like I said, I don't think it was because of the dotpup installation itself, it was from the actual running of PAWM.

ok, apparently PAWM wasn't the source of my problem here, because WINE
just broke on me here.

Does anyone have /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1.3.400? For some reason WINE keeps wanting to open it when it breaks, and I don't have the file. If I did have the file when I installed WINE, I keep loosing it for some reason.
