You can use the original OSS sound driver -
modprobe i810_audio

or you can use the new ALSA sound driver -
modprobe snd-intel8x0

2 : modprobe i810_audio
3 : Note /etc/modules.conf is more recent than /lib/modules/2.4.29/modules.dep
Gxine no sound.Mplayer no sound
ALSA:
1: modprobe snd-intel8x0
2: modprobe: can t located module snd-intel8x0

On Puppy104 and 105 it works without any manual setup for me.

This is what the "Hardware-probe" (Start - Control Panel) shows:
===== parse_pci_devices =====
1039:6325 (3,0) 0 [ (null) - (null) ] DISPLAY (null)
1039: 900 (2,0) 11 [ Silicon Integrated System - SiS900 Fast Ethernet/Home Networking Ctrlr ] ETHERNET sis900
1039:7012 (4,1) 11 [ SiS - SiS7012 PCI Audio Accelerator ] AUDIO i810_audio

Only "wavplay" and Duke 3D play .wav too fast, but xine or mplayer is ok.
Have you set up the volume in xtmix (start - multimedia)?

Parse_pci devices OK.ONLY DIF. is 1039:6330 not 1039:6325.
Modules :
AUDIO i810_audio : SiS Sis7012 PCI Audio Accelerator (1039:7012) running.
xtmix ok on(green) in cd pictures.

I also have a sound problem of sorts. CDs play fine, but when I go to play audio feeds off the web, I get nothing. I installed RealPlayer and get video from news.bbc.co.uk but no audio. This is exasperating.
Walt

Now that you point it out to me, the answer seems painfully obvious.
