Puppy 1.0.2 fails on old laptop

Sorry, but I can't get Puppy 1.0.2 to boot on my old Compaq LTE5100 P90. I've had to go back to 1.0.1, which runs very nicely, thanks.
Even John Murga's 50M Opera version with boot options won't load.

I suspect it is the new kernel not liking old machines.
I'll try again when 1.0.3 comes out with a stack of boot options.

Yes, it is unfortunate if it is indeed the 2.6 kernel that is to blame.

Does your BIOS support APM (Advanced Power Management)?
1.0.1 has APM activated in the kernel, 1.0.2 doesn't.

It does have some Power Management functions in the BIOS to control Suspend and Hibernation, etc. but it doesn't call it APM.
Was anything 'Advanced' in 1996?

Is it 2.6.1.2 version - Xandros list thier Kernel as 2.6.9 and it work on laptops that puppy cann't boot. Note: nvida driver in xandros is only using 64meg of video memory (I have 256meg card ) have to look up what is the current staple Kernel, been busy of late. I think you may have to go to a newer Kernel version to solve the bios problem.

You list Puppy as using 2.6.11.7 Xandros is using the older 2.6.9 - but thier is a newer 2.6.11.10 that is stable that may correct the boot problem!
