I've made a little helpful X-dialog script that calls up the pixmascan stand alone program installed from the dotpet.
It allows you a choice of colour/greyscale
Then what resolution
Filename and location
and scans an A4 image to a TIF file and then gives you the option to directly convert to PDF
Very fast - faster than pressing the buttons on the scanner and waiting an eternity in windows.

Great stuff
Hi, I posted a request for this some time ago and am very greatful it has been fixed. Just a word of warning though, I think canons own proprietry driver is under licience only to be downloaded from their server (in new zealand I think). This is only available in RPM format which is pretty useless. Is this the proprietry version?
Very useful .pet for (apart from the liciencing) a very cheap (£39 u.k. pounds) functional and good quality printer. If all seems well I will be recommending them to our clients.

Basically it was from the australia website Quoted "Goto Canon Australia to download two files:
http://canon.com.au/products/all_in_one ... pport.aspx, go through the selection and find the printer drivers
cnijfilter-common-2.70-1.i386.rpm (common package)
cnijfilter-mp160-2.70-1.i386.rpm (specials for the MP160) "

Notes on using it all with puppy 4
I just installed puppy 4 and found out the tiff2pdf binary is missing.
That it needed if you want a pdf using the scripts posted earlier in this thread.
You can copy them across from a late puppy 2 or get them from this thread:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 719#209719
Also for the printer - the post install scripts with things dealing with cups are not entirely relevant. I still got the printer to work, but with cups integrated in Puppy 4 I should work to making a trimmed down version sometime.
If anyone wants to beat me too it -go ahead. I am slow at getting things done.
scanner back end works no problems in pup 4

The Gutenprint printer driver package that comes with all Puppies 4.x and newer supports the MP160 printer. If the old threads that you reference above are correct, it may work with your MP460.
If you are planning to use Puppy 4.3.1, you may want to go here and upgrade to CUPS 1.3.11. It has improved hardware detection. You will also need to get the newer Gutenprint package linked to that page.
For scanner support, read here. It looks like the recent SANE packages support the MP460. Or you can try the old pixmascan package.

I've got my MP460 running with Puppy 4.31.
To be honest I can't remember if it popped up on its own or if I installed the pets (they don't show up in puppy package manager, but that's another story as a use sfs files with a lot of my standard packages built in for quick restarting on a clean system).
I am definitely using the old pixmascan thing to scan. Sane and Xsane also work fine.
Canon had a little helpful software built into their packages that promised a little more (A Printer monitor with a GUI for the MP160 and Scan Gear). I couldn't get them to work. I still have copies of the releases as binaries.
I can't be sure what the issues were (library dependencies or requiring glade or something else).
I still have all the pets and if they have been lost out there in mirror land and I am willing to share - just personal message me.
