DVD Keep Case for Puppy Linux

#1 Post by darrelljon »

Something that may help in the promotion of Puppy Linux is attractive box art if you like to store (as I do) in a standard DVD Keep Case. I have found I store so many useful Linux distros in plastic sleeves it is hard to find the good ones quickly.

Some useful resources
Puppy Logo thread

DVD covers are
183mm high
both front and back are 129.5mm wide each
spine is 14mm wide
(total width is 273mm)

Suggestion

#2 Post by yorkiesnorkie »

Hi,

This is a fun project because anyone can contribute. :-) Perhaps what is really needed is a template, in Abi word, with some kind of graphic, so anyone can type in a title text themselves, and then print it out? I was thinking of getting round to making a CD label because I've got several versions of puppy on the shelf. I suggest Abiword because its cross platform and is available for MS systems should anyone run into difficulty printing. I've got it for Win98se. Anyone know if sample Abi-word documents are available as templates?

I attach a template for Scribus. The spine is okay, but the text box in it may be a bit off kilter because I don't know how to lock it to guides. If you're having trouble seeing measurements, turn on guides.

Anyone got a template (or know where I could find one or could create one) for a retail box such as for PC games? I think they're 134mm wide by 192mm high by 34mm deep? I have a good idea for Puppy Linux.

I made templates for DVD covers in OpenDocument Text and Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP here.

I've got an extra Puppy Linux CD that I don't need anymore, it was burned at high speed, but didn't work on the older computer. I then had to make a duplicate CD, burned at minimum speed. I'm probably going to give the one I don't need to a friend, but I want a fancy case for it. (I also want a fancy case for the one I'm keeping ;))

I have some jewel cases, and I'd like a label for them. I have this type of case, and I'd like it to integrate this logo.

XCF is preferred, that way I can tweak anything I need to with Gimp. (Please be generous with the Layers. You can always merge them, but you can't (realistically) de-merge them. It's always handy to be able to tweak the layout anyway.)
