gDesklets 0.36 beta (Only for Puppy-3)

gDesklets is a system for bringing mini programs (desklets), such as weather forecasts, news tickers, system information displays, or music player controls, onto your desktop, where they are sitting there in a symbiotic relationship of eye candy and usefulness. The possibilities are really endless and they are always there to serve you whenever you need them, just one key-press away. The system is not restricted to one desktop environment, but currently works on most of the modern Unix desktops (including GNOME, KDE, Xfce).

Download: Requires: Usage:
  • Start gDesklets from: |Menu|>|Utilities|>|gDesklets| or run:

    Code: Select all

    gdesklets shell
    To add/install desklets use:

Note 1: Some desklets may require more libraries and programs.
Note 2: If your system crashes when installing many .pet packages try to install 4 or 5 then reboot and continue installing.

:) :) :) :) :)

That must have taken days, to get all the dependencies packaged!
Fantastic.

I had no gdesklett in your packages?
So I have downloaded them from:
http://www.gdesklets.de/index.php?q=desklet/browse

Then you can choose the downloaded tar.gz in the install-option of the gdesklett-configuration.

I wonder what this is, if it is a taskbar or program-launcher?

GnomeBar

It exits with an error:

No module named ORBit

Code: Select all

The gdesklets source package comes without any desklet. So I decided to pack it without widgets.

thanks, then I get:
/usr/lib/libbonoboui-2.so.0: undefined symbol: art_alloc

This would become quite a long issue to solve, it is not that important.

I now downloaded all your files.
Now also the real Gnome-panel launches.
Just has no icons, I think a current gnome-icon theme is missing.
But it nicely displays all of Puppys categories :)

http://packages.debian.org/sid/all/gnom ... e/download
This has current icons for the (real) panel.
But it just shows them for "stock" items or so, like the Gnome-paw.
For Puppys programs I think, we somehow had to instruct gconftool-2 to use Puppys iconfolders.
But this is no full solution yet anyway, as for example the taskbar seems not to work either (using Icewm as wm).
Never mind, it is already great to have a modern set of libs to run Gnome-programs.
As a panel also lxpanel can be used.

Sorry for hijacking the thread from deskletts to Gnome

---------------------
after playing around a bit, I got the taskbar visible.
You must right-click on the spacer (horizontal line), then you get an option to set the minimum size.
You also can add custom buttons to launch programs, and a pager.

Here is a screenshot, the Gnome-taskbar is on top, the gdesklet-gnome-panel in the middle.

Have you installed AWN? if so, you'll need a composite manager to run "Avant window navigator" or "awn curves" (maybe works with xcompmgr).

Wow, I just wanted to say thanks. IMHO this is the best eye-candy / usefulness release since the original EZpup. It adds about 20Mb to the weight of my system, but IMHO it adds about 2Gb of credibility to Puppy as a lite distro. Well done, mate!

hello,

I've installed all the dependencies and the packages but I am using icewm and when i run gdesklets nothing happens. i don't get a little icon in the system tray to click so that i can manage the desklets. the first time i ran it i got a dialogue explaining that it wasn't a stable release but then nothing after that. i'm a newbie so there is probably something simple i'm not doing.

any thoughts?

thank you

I get no more weather from the goodweather widget.
Did I mess up something, or do others have the same problem?

El Ninjo?

NIN means shadow in japanese; JIU means art as in jui jitsu

NINJIU: the opposite to Samurai (= servant)

Poor landlords from the mountains charged as murderers.

Hey bosley

that's twice now I've come across a seemingly unrelated post from you - can't remember where the last one was

can you explain, for other users, rather than
El Ninjo?

If anyone needs them:

here are packages for gstreamer-python.
Also available : the DEV packages for the pycairo, pygobject and pygtk mentioned in the first thread.

from:

Code: Select all

                     "%(weather_code)s?cc=*&dayf=5&prod=xoap&" \
to:

Code: Select all

                     "%(weather_code)s?link=xoap&cc=*&dayf=5&prod=xoap&" \
