0n Tuesday 23 August 2005 a developers Alpha2 will be released and have some of the new design features . . .

other details here as they emerge . . .

I would urge anyone who can mirror Puppy to let us know

I think we need more mirrors - the bit torrents also work well and come on-line soon after Puppy is announced . . .

Keep an eye on Barrys News page at

What kernel will the new Puppy use?
My modem drive doesn't like the new kernel (2.4.29) that Puppy 1.0.4 use, so I'm still using Puppy 1.0.3 (kernel 2.4.27).

I use Intel 536EP, with no luck after trying the modem wizard I was able to get it work in 1.0.3 by downloading the driver from Intel's site. As Puppy doesn't have 'make' I didn't install it but use 'insmod' instead. When I tried to do the same in Puppy104 it says 'the module is for kernel 2.4.20-28...' Though I still force it to load the module (insmod -f), it doesn't work anymore :(

I know I should have bought a hardware modem, but my computer is new, and this intel 536ep is new too! At the time I bought them I know nothing about hardware modem (I thought that modem is a hardware and so my modem is a hardware modem! What a stupid noob...)

I can live without 1.0.4 but I don't think I can with the release of the new 1.0.5 version! All the KDE apps, the ability to compile...well I can't miss that. What can I do??

2.4.29 kernel is the last one that is mentioned on the news page as having been compiled for the new Puppy.

KDE Puppy IS NOT part of the official Puppy. It will be released for those who are interested as a separate download.

That is my understanding :)

A wiki page on the available Puppys and puplets would be a good idea. It should also include some of the Qemu and Puppys runing from XP and such like . . .

I suggest this is NOT done in HTML as it is easier to edit from the wiki format as people add mirrors and torrents

Who is up for it?

I will be happy to contribute. The problem is that I will be on vacation from 8/24 through 8/27. No electricity or internet connection.

But, this is a great idea. I have lost track of all the versions and special builds.

Let me know what I can do around this. I will watch my PM's, which I often overlook.

Understood about the html format problems.
I love it when a plan comes together

Hi,

Have you tried sourceforge.net?

This is where I uploaded the "XP-puppy".
The nice thing is, they use several mirrors automatically.

Disadvantage:
The usage is a bit complicated.
First you upload a file via Ftp at upload.sf.net to the folder /incoming
Then in your webinterface, you create a new project or release, and add the uploaded file there.

There is an easier to use Desktop -App:
http://releaseforge.sourceforge.net/

KDE Puppy; other Wikis

Will it work on Puppy 1.0.3?

I think so too. In the long run, maybe we need a wiki site like this one:
http://www.engatiki.org/engatiki/EngaTiki
http://www.engatiki.org/engatiki/WikkaDocumentation

It has easy to navigate menu, while it's still easy to edit:
http://www.engatiki.org/engatiki/WikkaD ... ation/edit

I guess the front page is configured when installing the Wikka Wiki.
More wiki-sites with notable layout can be find here:
http://wikka.jsnx.com/WikkaSites#hn_A_s ... ble_layout

What do you guys think?

We can use a lot of these free file hosting places
this one is free and I have an account setup 60mb capaity unlimited bandwidth
http://savefile.com/index.php

And I can setup an http, can only leave pc on for a week, that is unless I get my other pc up and running. Which I have been thinking about doing.
In fact I will! All it needs is an ethernet hookup. And my other pc is not looking good.
I think it is ghost, however I will have my pc guy look at it anyways!!!
why 3 computers? I ask why not?
Heaven is on the way, until then let's get the truth out!

I am not sure. There are two ways it might be implemented as a complete release
- that is early 1.0.5 innards with KDE interface and KDE program or as a Pupget
which modifies an existing Puppy

Barry is the best person to answer this.

This one and the one I used to use will delete the files if they're not accessed for 14 days :(

Do you know any other site that doesn't have such rule?

In my opinion 1.0.5 is the bestest Puppy ever. Certainly stable, certainly peachy and now you want 1.0.6 well . . .

. . . everything known about 1.0.6 is here:

If you know or glean more please add

Puppy 1.05 is awesome! But Puppy 1.06 will be a knockout if if manages to get ALSA, DVD multisession, and OO.o Beta2 in it. I tremble in anticipation.

Keep up the good work!

Ha, ha, no, too much!

I'm trying to get back to more frequent releases, focussing in a few things
for each release. For 1.0.6 it will be mostly the multisession DVD and
Abiword ...I think.

Barry: I fully support this approach :)
Release Early, Release Often
& pay attention to detail...
