Two GIMPs; how to get rid of (the older) one? [Solved]

#1 Post by jcagle »

Ever since I've downloaded and installed grafpup 1.0.5 (the package that Nathan put together) I've had two GIMPs.

This is partly my fault, I should have uninstalled GIMP first before I ran the newer Puppy Linux CD.

But now how do I get rid of the old GIMP and just use the newer one?

Right now it will only let me use the old GIMP, which is 2.0.6. It won't let me use the newer one.

I can't seem to get rid of it in the PupGet package manager.

If I try to use the newer one, running from rxvt, I get this
This is a development version of The GIMP.
Debug messages may appear here.

gimp: symbol lookup error: gimp: undefined symbol: gimp_enum_set_value_descriptions

Try this:

1.
Edit /etc/puppyversion, change the entry from "105" back to "104"
don't put a new-line at end of line.

2.
Reboot Puppy.

3.
Run PupGet, uninstall Gimp -- if it is still listed as installed.

4.
Run PupGet, install Gimp.

Well I probably won't have to re-install Gimp, as Gimp is already on the grafpup CD. But I'll definitely do the other steps.

ok...I know part of my problem...

I re-mastered the grafpup and it had two Gimps on the new CD instead of one..

so now I'm back to the original grafpup.

Unfortunately I still get the same error message when I try to run the new GIMP.

I fixed it by creating an entirely new pup file.

Glad you got it fixed. This is the first I've seen this thread or I would have responded myself.

Nathan

PS-A more recent stable release is on the way. See here:
