gFTP is very slow for me (SOLVED)

I am sure we have covered this before but asking again . . .

the program Gftp FTP seems way too slow when uploading multiple files

50k of files should take me a few seconds to upload not 30 mins . . .

Can someone confirm?
Is this a known bug?
Is there some setting that will speed it up?
I am using the default 21 port - could it be morizot firewall - should I try another port?

It works but . . .

Can I blame GW Bush? He seems to be to blame (God is innocent, impartial and in many instances non-existent)

Thats not normal.. for me 50 kb take some seconds in Gftp.

Cheap/free webspace is known to be very slow for uploads, but not that slow I think.

I cannot give you a tip, except trying it with another hoster, to encircle (you say that? or isolate?) the problem.

I did an FTP with multiple files with no problems....mind you, not using a firewall.

if you turned off your firewall (maybe by typing something like /etc/rc.d/rc.firewall-morizot stop ... i'm not sure, i've never installed the Puppy firewall, i have my own script) (it's relatively safe to run Puppy without a firewall) ... then you know the firewall should not be causing the problem

a router or dsl or cable modem might have a firewall in it ... you might have to forward port 21 ... usually (not always) ftp can work without enabling incoming on port 21

it's also possible that your isp disables or throttles port 21 (isp's often don't like you running ftp and web servers)

It ain't morizot and I do not think it is the ISP. Last time this happened I used Filezilla on a Windows machine connected on the same router / firewall with no problems.

I have a router with a firewall in it - that seems to be a possible difference with other users who are experiencing no such difficulties. However the Windows machine is using the same firewall. Curiouser and curiouser . . .

I do not know what "forward port 21 means"? If you could explain I can have a go . . .

you could try enabling/disabling Passive File Transfers in ftp Options ... sometimes it works better one way than the other ... but that should not affect the speed of transfer, just whether it connects at all

Turned off passive mode, created a directory - files went zap straight there

Thanks guys another task that Puppy can perform with ease. As far as I know one other person was getting slow FTP - hopefully this is now SOLVED for them too . . .
