Lives homepage:
http://lives.sourceforge.net/index.php?do=home

Lives w/o jack support is at:
http://myfreefilehosting.com/f/e96bd340cb_1.08MB

Lives w/ jack support is at:
http://myfreefilehosting.com/f/4e987514a7_1.08MB

Jack is at:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=173514

Lives will also be in my Yahoo briefcase incase the above links aren't working.
http://tinyurl.com/3cyy8a

It depends on mjpegtools which is at:
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=25001

At runtime Lives will look for sox. If you want the extra features of sox you can find it at:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=25016

It also uses imagemagick which is here:

Installed on v2.16 + Ezpup- not much testing yet (needs much learning :D ) but it does appear to work.
Thank you very much - appears to be the first useful video weapon I've had in Puppy or Linux.
Cheers

I added a package that was compiled with jack support if you want that.

Thanks for the 'jack' support, I've seen a couple of 'complaints' about that.
I tried to append 2 clips with different formats, it failed due to lack of the 'convert' module. There does seem to be something major missing,
Another problem which appears to be a lives bug but so basic I can't believe it is. Tried to delete about 8 frames from the end of a clip. It copied them to the clipboard then started to delete them. 1 hour later it was still deleting them. Tried that twice on 2 different clips both times with the same result.
Any thoughts?
Running on an Athlon XP with >700Mb ram and about 70Gb of work space.

I can't really help with that, I've never actually used Lives. I figured I'd compile it just incase I wanted to try it out. Anyone else try it out yet and see if it works as expected?

Here's what was displayed when I ran the LiVES menu option, after installing the dependent libraries, etc and restarted:

Code: Select all

Starting...
Succesfully loaded 45 Weed filters
Loading default keymap from /root/.lives-dir/default.keymap...done.
Starting GUI...
mplayer...NOT DETECTED...convert...NOT DETECTED...composite...NOT DETECTED...sox...detected
xmms...NOT DETECTED...cdda2wav...detected...jackd...NOT DETECTED...dvgrab...NOT DETECTED...

Window manager reports as "JWM"; temp directory is /tmp/livestmp/
WARNING - this version of LiVES was compiled without jack support.
Many audio features will be unavalaible.
Welcome to LiVES version 0.9.8.7.

Opening /mnt/home/kits/MVO_080206-01.avi
Playback speed not found or invalid ! Using default fps of 25.000 fps.
Default can be set in Tools | Preferences | Misc.

==============================
Switched to clip MVO-01.avi

failed.
Closed file /mnt/home/kits/MVO-01.avi

Another window was displayed that contained the following message:

Code: Select all

LiVES was unable to locate 'composite'. You should install composite and image-magick if you want to use the merge function.
This was all done a PC running Puppy v2.17

Any other thoughts?

Okay, here's what I get when I start Lives:

mplayer...detected...convert...detected...composite...detected...sox...detected
xmms...NOT DETECTED...cdda2wav...detected...jackd...detected...dvgrab...NOT DETECTED...

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

convert & composite are from imagemagick and I've posted that here:

Getting better - I've installed everything you have provided plinej (except for jack, that will come) and lives has no other complaints. Also, all dependancy requirements have been fulfilled.
The problem with deleting (mentioned previously) goes much further. Almost everything I've tried never completes. The 'Im Doing It' box saying 'something' is happening with the button running backwards and forwards never goes away and can't be closed with the close button. BUT I suspect the process has completed sometimes. Hard to prove because after being killed, when lives is restarted and you try to load the previously created 'clip set' it goes into one of the endless 'I'm Doing It!!!' routines. :(
My initial suspicions centre around a failure to communicate with the 'Im Doing It' box, or a failure to communicate between processes.
Where appropriate the msg 'Frames copied to clipboard' always appears in the log window as the last entry.
When I started to write this I was thinking about libraries at the wrong version. Having writen it I realise that different kernels could also be involved. Mmmmmm!
Anyone have any useful thoughts?
cheers
Geoff
