Hi,
Your screenshot is 1152x768 and is way too big for my 14" screen.
Please reduce your screenshot to 800x600 before posting here.
Time savers:
Find packages in a snap and install using Puppy Package Manager (Menu).

bonjour

also I am now working in puppy396k2.16.24 and all work very fine.
thank you very much to barry and helpers.

i did erase all my different linux partitions and keep only a 24 Gbyte
partition and a SWAP. as i did see, that the grub loader don't accept
the empty ext2 as "linux" for grub if there is no linux system in it, i did
install kubuntu 7.10 with KDE4.0 in this ext2 partition  (download
links: see French discussion; only 540 Mbyte download :!: )

after that I did install puppy396k2.16.24 in this new environment.

as kubuntu has a highly performant actualization and upgrade
environment and puppy frugal can simply be upgraded by installation
in a new directory without affecting the rest of the system I have now
a very evolutive solution with a really big room for compilation (20
Gbyte) etc.

this new puppy is really wonderful and all works best including Xine
embedded in seamonkey: the terrible microsoft format videos are not
a problem any more.

the help function is more than good with the integrated overview what
contains my system!

wonderfull is also that the big kubuntu partition is also integrated in the
puppy system and see as being part of it simultanly! that is a great!

concerning the PET's diverse little details don't work as pretty as the
distribution. it was not possible to add the dottpuphandler and for this
reason to add the full java dotpup (I don't know a PET for full java) etc.
the firefox.pet comes with a lot of dependence claims! I did not see any web phone.

i miss only a little but important detail: it seems as if the webcam can't
operate (the new skype for linux has now the webcam connection
 so it is not necessary to install a lot of special libraries for ekiga
or kopete with webcam. i suppose that Qt4 is enough)?

CH_de and CH_fr keyboard would be appreciate in the definitive
version because no other keyboard layout can write as good as much
west European languages correctly (D, E, F, I, NL, P and S excepted
special question marks) and only a few
byte are necessary!

only a great deception: the best resolution for me is 1024 (but i can
select 1400 in windows!) both in Xorg and Xvesa (I prefer myself
Xvesa: Xvesa works perfectly excepted the resolution) and I as am a
old man with heavy seeing troubles the optic quality of my system is
very important for me: the best choice is always 1200 (or 1152). in
puppy 2.17 i did use 1280x1024; it is a terrible difference for people
having seeing troubles because the angle of seeing are absolutely
different!

thank you again!

salut

oui

note: kubuntu 7.10 with k 2.16.14 and KDE 4.0 makes very more
problems  (but works also!): the Kpackager is not complete,
Kopete as no provider list in it as user, etc.

puppy 4 alpha 396

#4 Post by charnisingh »

thank both of you who made some comments. other than VLC and Gizmo
programs the PETs are available at various puppy sites if anybody find it difficult he is advised to search puppylinux.ca specially the members area for addon pet pkgs.
i have uploaded a working iso of puppy dingo 4- 394- search members area and then Sing-Dingo to get the iso which is about 160 mbs. thanks all of you.
adding programs in puppy dingo is little difficult as .pups does not work in puppy dingo so far, plus any new program demands different set of libs, so it is quite time consuming.
if i can help in this matter i am too happy to do that.

i request for more and more comments before i upload iso of puppy dingo 4
-396 with k.2.6.24 which is ready with me from the day i put this image on the site for comments.

Very nice, charnisingh, when will you upload your 396 build? You can try this as temporary location: ftp://puppy:linux@ftp.servage.net

puppy 4 Dingo-3.96 ( k-2.6.24)

#14 Post by charnisingh »

Hi Canery and Raffy,

i am happy to see your comments and thank both of you . as for as uploading the work ,Eric was very kind and allowed me to upload puppy 4 Dingo 3.94 built on Bare-bone at puppy ca but there was not much of a response and i do not think if anybody has downloaded to test or run it.

this one is built on puppy 4 Dingo-3.96-k2.6.24. though it is ready from the day one it was released by Barry and i put up 1st screen shot on the forum but beside you peoples comment there was hardly any comments for me to know as to what others thinks or what others want in this built so you can understand how do i feel.

with thanks and regards.

Not many people are going to test a distro based on what is considered an unstable Alpha (not even a Beta)

However I am using Dingo Alpha 6 and know it is more stable then some final releases of other distros. However . . . you should not be discouraged. When Barry started Puppy he got very little feedback or help. :)

By your name I would guess your first language is punjabi? You have language skills that would be useful to Puppy and you are clearly enthusiastic. Patience and fortitude. :D

Did you place news of your creation here?

You also need an inspiring name for it :)

And you have MUT working in Dingo!

Now, my problem is that I can't give you any comment about your 3.96 build because it's not available yet. :D

HIi Raffy and others who showed their interest in this build, first of all i must thanks every one, i am attaching here with the PETget pkkgs
installed list for others to know , more or less, the entire pkgs installed in this build are shown here, as i feel . this way others can also build puppy of their own choice.

as for as i am concerned i am waiting for Barry to bring out puppy 4 dingo final. in the meanwhile i would like to find out whether pup save file can be converted to sfs file or a pup save file if uploaded in any zip form would help others , which can be used by others as their save fille instead of building their own to add softwares in DINGO. i think this way it will be more helpful for those who are new to puppy and the pup save file can be upgraded to coming versions of DINGO. and save on the labor to add the same pkgs again an again.

any suggestions will be welcome.

Very interesting - thanks!

Yes, you can compress your pup_save.2fs and then upload it someplace.
