How I got Atheros wifi card to work in Toshiba Satellite P35

#1 Post by Guest »

I wanted to post how I got my wireless to work with Puppy 1.05 so it might help others if they are stuck.

I have an Atheros wifi Card in a Toshiba Satellite P35 requiring the Madwifi Drivers (masterfully handled by wifi-1.04-beta-2.pup). My router is a LinksysWRT54G.

1) I downloaded wifi-1.04-beta-2.pup using a wired ethernet connection and installed the dotpup. After this you can unhook the cable.

2) I clicked the Setup Icon...ran the Wireless Wizard...Ran WAG.

3) Make sure dhcpcd is toggled off (not running) and wifi-beta is installed.

4) I then clicked Profiles and Edit Profiles and made a template using my network information. File...save

5) I clicked on the name of my network. (sometimes a bit of a pause here)

6. If dhcpcd is not running, then click the DHCP Toggle button.

7. Click on Mozilla and it works.

Things for me to work on (still need help with:
A) Getting Puppy to connect to my network each time I run Puppy-so far I have only gotten it to hang...more reading on my part is necessary.
B) Every time I boot up and run the Wireless Wizard, I have to run the wifi-beta2 again. Doesn't seem to remember the drivers with my setup.
C) I need to take my laptop to Starbucks and see if I can connect easily enough to another wireless network.

Just to clarify for others attempting wireless setups, wifi-1.0.4-beta-2.pup does not utilise the MADWiFi driver, it uses ndiswrapper.

I think you need to put a line in rc.local to run rc.wireless. There should be instructions in the wifi-beta-2 documentation about doing this.

Glad to hear that everything else went so smoothly!
