sstv |
|
I see someone is thinking of sstv via wine. If someone has got it working with puppy I would like to know the puppy version and sstv program they are using.
I tried mmsstv out, downloaded it and it showed that wine was to run it but when I clicked on it nothing happened. If any one else has had success with this sstv software or another flavor please let me know. thanks

EchoLinux & eQSOLinux for Puppy 3? Subject description: Hamradio VoIP over Puppy |
|
Folks,
I got my puplinux.3 installed on my Dell pentium II tower with liveCD and running superb! Is there any echolinux and eqsolinux available for puplinux.3 yet? Anyone tried NBEMS by W1HKJ yet?
More linuxham apps go to http://radio.linux.org.au

You could try running echolink under WINE as WINE runs lots of things.
There is a pup for WINE - but also install WineTools which has installers for many programs.
I tried to contact W1HKJ about putting X-Chat in his Puppy CD with the Morse-Code plug in. I can't get the dependancies right for the plug in and there is no generic binary, just source code.
I have gotten "hf" working - it does AmTOR and other stuff. You have to edit the .sh fle script and comment out the routine at the top that closes down "hf" if it sees that root (superuser) is running the process. After I did that, it works like a charm.

Now, if we could just wean a few smart Ham's from win to puppy, we would start rolling.. CQ-DX puppy
- echolink works under wine, but needs cpu power & RAM + mic drivers.
- Log progs, depends on your needs...
- cat progs... need to run wine, cpu power & RAM
sstv, rtty, amtor, packet... general progs for ham modes ... well I don't know...
It would be great if some ham brains got interested in puppy,
as puppy's footprint is small and fast, leaves room for ham progs
73's to all

Hi maddox,
I've been sending links to my Cuban amigo Prof. Arnaldo Coro for months as he can't access this forum due to the US embargo.
I would very much appreciate if someone could package the ham info so I could send Arnie the forum information for the Cubans to use.
If you are not aware of Prof. Arnaldo Coro..he is a world renowned ham/emergency ham teacher.(google it..also Arnie Coro)
I have provided Puppy Linux for hams to the Cubans from this link http://puppylinux.ca/puppyfiles/custom/EMCpup/
Now it's time for the Cubans to have a voice here on the forum..alas they don't have access. I have no political incentive here...just a bridge for users that need Puppy...and they ARE using Puppy.
Eric

Are you sure that it's not an embargo placed by the ISP that hosts this forum or the owner? For a long time Arnie could not post to the QRP-L mailing list due to a ban placed by the domain owner, but after a lot of complaints from list members, he can now post.
Last time I saw him post, Arnie is using an older version of EMCpup.

That's good, as the author of EMCPup doesn't keep older versions of the software available for download.

I don't know much about ham radio, but isn't this the sort of software that would be useful?

Hi Caneri, muggins, djringjr and all the other HAM's out there in puppy-land..
@Caneri, thanks for the great hosting...
@muggins, thanks for the compile time, and the supplied link info.
I'll try out echolinux and the other software, will keep you posted.
off-topic:
Wow, puppy unleashed, gives a whole new meaning to that word...
puppy through a Transmitter, long-wire, ether, internet, puppy..
- Virtual-puppy or teleportation ?
on-topic:
yes, it would be great if some HAM's could package their progs for puppy.
I think that the HAM programmers learnt the win coding thing, and aren't convinced (learning curve) about puppy.
Also limited knowledge, specific programming tools-info in puppy-linux seem missing
.

This is a bit different. Its about hamradio voip. I try to use echolink and eqso over linux. Some hams used ubuntu 7.10 to run echolink and eqso successfully. I have ubuntu. But I want to keep a low profile by using puplinux 3.01 on my two pcs (one notebook and one tower). Dingo, Erikson and Bruce have given me some tips with wine and its opengl. I have successfully downloaded, installed and used wine 0.9.58 and opengl 7.2 on puplinux 3.01 tower to run echolink and eqso. I was able to listen (rx) only. But the sound quality was too much treble, sharp or narrow than the sound produced by windows. Also I couldn't use my working mic (no response or no tx). Linux sound mixer couldn't help to adjust my audio the way I like. Any suggestion to find a better sound mixer for puplinux 3.01? Appreciate it. Thanks!
PS. Originally I posted above report on "How to install wine on puppy linux" forum over here.

This is the link to How to install Wine to PupLinux: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=27963.
I request to anyone in charge or maybe Murga if he can transfer above topic or forum under Beginners to How to forum. I try to find linux native application of echolink and eqso if there is. Meanwhile I use Wine to interface those hamradio voip apps. But no luck with sound quality and mic. Any tip would be appreciated it. Thanks and 73 de wyn, ab2qv.

Hi Bob
Would you care to elaborate on the expected effects of this, as it seems there are other convergances occurring then , too

Echolink in Puppy |
|
I had difficulty getting Echolink to run under Wine 9.54 in Puppy 3.01. I was able to receive audio, but couldn't transmit any. It looked like PTT wasn't working completely - transmit audio level meter jumping erratically when using the ECHOTEST server and nothing coming back.
There is a Linux answer to Echolink: QTel (QT Echolink), and it's available here:
http://svxlink.sourceforge.net/
I believe I used the Debian binary, and there may be a newer version at packages.debian.org. I use stuff from "lenny", now, rather than "etch".
The only hangup I had, after hunting down all the dependencies, was using the right version of libsigc++, as mentioned in the installation section. It pays to read carefully.
It's not as flashy as the Windows Echolink, but it works!
