Hi,
I'm thinking of switching to Linux, but want try it first, and I found out that with puppy, I can try it, without installing it on my PC. I mean, is this possible, without messing up with my windows XP, and the already installed software, and data.
I already browsed, a link http://www.goosee.com/puppy/cd-puppy.htm, for the procedure with a bootable CD.
Thanks for your feedback, Paul
Trying puppy on my windows Laptop.....
Puppy and Windows XP
Hi. I don't have Puppy running with WinXP.
What I know is:
A:
1. Download pup001.zip from download section on ibiblio. look in version 1.01 I believe... (to bad, it is not in root directory )
2. expand pup001.zip to c:\pup001
3. boot from puppy live-cd and up you go
B:
Look for Puppy-WinXP downloader from MU (annoucements/add.software)
C:
You can run puppy inside an emulator like qemu (free) or vmware (pay).
With vmware, you can even use your host pc's network interface...

Peter just described my exact setup. I work in puppy everyday using a corporate laptop that I better not mess up with.
An extra advice is to copy usr_cram.fs from the CD into C:\ That will greatelly speed up the booting time.
Of you want to compile applications, also download usr_devx.sfs from the download site and put it in C:\
Don't worry about experimenting in Puppy, to start fresh you just need a new pup001 file replacing the previous one (I keep my stable one clean and have an extra one for messing up)
I really think that pup001.zip should be on the CD. But failing that, I keep a copy on my HDD to create test pup001 files.
