Hi,
We have a Chihuahua called 'Princess' she is currently very pregnant. She is a short haired Chihuahua and her boyfriend was a long haired. We would be delighted if you would consider either Princess or one of the new puppies to be the new mascot instead of using stock photos. I would be pleased to upload some photos somewhere (Suggestions of a website to host pictures welcome - not flikr - don't like it!!). It saddens both my wife and myself to here about the loss of 'Puppy'!!! [/img]

Yes, post lots of photos!
We can use them as a resource, and maybe pick one out for use with Puppy Linux.

....does anybody have the skills with a paint program to turn that into a round shape, to match my other round icons? I don't want a 3D effect, just simple round, and as it is JPG, no transparency, it is good enough for the area outside the button to be white, since I use a white page background.
Or, I guess it could change to PNG to get a nice smooth edge onto a transparent background out side the button.
I haven't got a clue how to use mtPaint to do that.

I've created these with Gimp.
At bottom, I slightly extended the white area of Puppy, so that I was able to put it in a circle.
Then I cut the circle, pasted as new image, and removed the background with the magic wand.
Created a new background by choosing a part from the old, resampling it to 48x48.
Finally slightly decreased the size of Puppy, to match in the new background.
Pasted Puppy in the background..
Then selected a circle, inverted it, cut it (to get the transparent round border).

Yes, the second lot look better -- Puppy has a kind of "brooding" look in the photo, which suits him being slightly lower in the photo, as you have done in the second lot. The thin margin looks good too.
They are definitely going onto my website!

Please post the xcf file.

I have some ideas to improve the avatar to make it more consistent with the other round icons on the page.

I recommend always saving the xcf so you can modify the different layers at a later time.

Actually every modification I do goes to a different layer, once I feel comfortable I may merge some layers to simplify management.

Here is a "button-like" version.

Here are some samples but I can make it any colour you want.

Also puppy's face could be made smaller but for now I left it with the same proportions to the image size as barry's avatar.

I'm also uploading the xcf file in case someone else with more artistic talents wants to fix it. The xfc includes some layers with elements that I decided not to use.

Remember: think of JPG or PNG as the binary and XCF as the "source code"

When sharing these kind of images it is better to share the "source" so it can be modified by others.
