Full size screenshot (1680x1050):

This release is available in english only, due to problematic laws concerning violence in games in germany.

Includes:

- Doomsday + many addons and wads (extralevels, Doom1 shareware, freedom (doom2-clone) and more)

- Quake2 shareware + many addons, engines + wads

- Descent 2 shareware

- Tuxracer

- Dreamchess 2000

- Some Flashgames

So it is a pure Game-Puppy.
No printing (cups removed), no office (abiword, gnumeric removed)
But you can go online, netsurf and seamonkey are included.
You also have wine, as it is needed for a helpfull tool to examine new Quake2 wads.

You will need a 700 or 800 MB CDR, I did not burn it myself, just ran it frugal.

Usage:
Start from CD or frugal installation.
Boot it, set up keyboard and Xorg (Video).
Then reboot.
You will be offered to create a save-file, confirm, and choose "save to file".
128 MB should be ok for the moment, but Quake savefiles quickly eat space, so better use 256 MB.
You also will be offered, to copy the SFS files from the Iso to your disk.
Confirm that, or you cannot play.
All game-files and 3D drivers are in a huge file mgamesa_083.sfs, it is 580 MB.
After the reboot, you can play immedeatly.
Just if you have an Nvidia-card, you should be offered an additional grafics-setup.

If you have no swap-partition, you certainly will need one, at least if you have less than 512 MB of ram or so.
A swap-partition can be created with "gparted".

HurtMePlenty saves to a file called msy_save.2fs.
If you use Muppy-Linux already, you must pay attention, that your existing one is not used (so I added a way, that you will be asked, before an upgrade to 083 is performed).
If you are uncertain, just ask, and I'll give you instructions.

Note:
though this uses the "msy", this is not an official Minisys-Linux.
This iso is just based on a developer-snapshot, after I had a lot of trouble with SDL/OpenGL, and so had to run many tests.
The games are very critical to library conflicts, and helped me a lot, to find those.
I recompiled several games and SDL myself, so the binaries are not identical to older dotpups posted before.

Download:

Please open Rox-Filer, and navigate to the folder, where you want to download (with 700 MB free space).
Right-click in the window, and choose:
"Window - Terminal here"

Now rxvt opens, and you can type:

Code: Select all

wget -c http://puppyfiles.ca/puppyisos/isos/HurtMePlenty-01/HurtMePlenty-01.iso
Or download from:
http://puppyisos.org/isos/2008-01-to-06 ... Plenty-01/
Pasword, see:
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=28930

The md5sum is:
b70b88508fc1bcbbf60dbce6814383a4

If you must interrupt the download, hit CTRL-C.
You can do the same steps again later, then the download is continued.
If you have no success, try again a day later.
Currently the german server gets overloaded every day, and then is unavailable for many hours.

Enjoy :D
Tomorrow I'll travel to northern germany again, so we hopefully can upload Muppy 008.3 soon.

Did not offer me that and I have Nvidia.
So the system is there but the games will not run
keeps telling me to save and reboot :?

Lob, there seem to be 2 issues:

1.)keeps telling me to save and reboot
- then the sfs is not copied.
Please copy from your CD the file mgamesa_083.sfs to your harddrive, there where you usually copy devx_301.sfs.

2.) keeps telling me to save and reboot
- After the reboot it should be used as devx is usually used.
And the nvidia-dialog should start.
If the games start, but you don't get the nvidia-dialog, please click on:
/usr/local/install-nvidia-m008/install-nvidia

There is no such file - only mgamesa_.sfs (the "083") is missing but the file is on the CD and on the hard drive. :?
I have renamed the file on the hard drive and rebooted.
The nvidia green installer widget came up - so that was the problem.
I have to rerun the xorgwizard every time I go to the prompt
"xwin" or "xwin jwm" not working - it then asks me to install nvidia again . . .

So far I have run Descent II (only in a small window) and the flash games are working OK. "Lucky Balls" seems an excellent game choice.

The Muppy interface is superb

yes, jwm is deactivated, or better fixmenus for jwm, to speed up things.
I must find a workaround for this.

That the 083 is missing - ohoh...
So I must rebuild the iso.

Later, must catch the train...
thanks for your report!
The Muppy interface is superb
8) yes, was a lot of work...

Have a safe journey.
Your public tram/train service sounds superb.

I will be interested in how the new Muppy is received
The games disk show a lot of potential.
I was playing tennis on the Wii recently.
The interactive nature is a lot of fun
- quite a work out . . .

For HurtMePlenty, I suppose a pup_save is needed?
Can it be a small one?

Beem, 128-256 MB should be ok.

I just updated the Isos.
Now the included mgamesa_083.sfs has the correct filename.

The mistake was, that I had built the iso with 8 char long filenames.
I now used "mkisofs -l" for long filenames.

I have keyboard problems with my Thinkpad R40.
Also it says that be latin1 is loaded, I get a mixture of us and belgian.
Not very handy.

Got finally the big games sfs correctly loaded, but I can't play a game.
Quake, doom etc don't start loading.
After those attempts I am in a kinda 800x600 screen mode, so my desktop is too big for the screen.

The TUX game starts, but the keyb isn't very reactive and all of a sudden no more screen, but I hear the sardines being catched.

No way to get back to the desktop. PC came to a freeze and I had to use the BRS.

Beem, what for a graficcard do you have?
Does it work correct with Puppy 3?
Could you attach a zipped /var/log/Xorg.0.log, please?

http://archiv.chip.de/artikel/Acht-aktu ... 105&tid2=0

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=283805

Seems to be a mobility Radeon 7500by Ati.
It has 16 MB videoram.

This might be not enough for high resolutions using "glx".
So the games uses the highest resolution available for your card, 800x600.
Then maybe they crash, because the games use an instruction not supported by your card or driver.
So they cannot switch back to your original resolution.

I added several "engines" for Quake and Descent2.
I think the "sdl" engines might need less resources than the "gl" engines.
With your card, it might be possible, that only one engine works - or none.

But the Xorg.0.log might give us more info, so attach it please, anyway :)
Please also attach:
/usr/local/doomsday186/Doomsday.out

That is the log of Doomsday.

Thank you Mu for your attention.
The really bad problem is the keyboard.
I thought my Belgian keyboard was a mix with US, but now I think its German, as I have a lot of umlauted characters
Well checked and its a qwertzu

But ala I got the info.

And yes the graphics is a Radeon 7500.

I run puppy on this PC from 2.12 on up to beta 1
In one of the muppies, I installed the glx/dri support, (the 008 I think) and the 3D demo did run fine
I ran the 3D demo in hurt me plenty and get a fps of 40-41.

Is it needed to install the SDL library?

EDIT:
Don't worry about the keyboard.
Through x keyboard settings I could activate my beloved Belgian keyboard.

that is a good value.
Also your Xorg.0.log looks good.
It is not needed to install anything else, it should run out of the box.
I don't see, why it does not work for you.

One thing I found in Xorg.0.log:
(II) RADEON(0): Detected total video RAM=32768K, accessible=65536K (PCI BAR=131072K)
Maybe in /etc/X11/xorg.conf you could add
videoram 65536
after the line
Driver "ati"

Apart from that, no idea at moment...

Concerning keyboard:
On another computer, I encountered strange keyboard-behaviour caused by "xsetnumlock", that is launched from /root/.xinitrc

I will remove that line and rebuild the iso somewhen this week.
If someone has the same problem, try to remove that line with leafpad.

Thank you Mark,

I have now:
(II) RADEON(0): Detected total video RAM=32768K, accessible=65536K (PCI BAR=131072K)
(II) RADEON(0): Video RAM override, using 65536 kB instead of 32768 kB
(**) RADEON(0): Mapped VideoRAM: 65536 kByte (64 bit DDR SDRAM)
(II) RADEON(0): Color tiling enabled by default
(II) Loading sub module "ddc"
in xorg.0.log.
I suppose this looks better now and will retry.

As for the keyboard, I do a setting for the xkeyboard.
I get my Belgian keyboard, but it doesn't seem to stick.
Could be however that I had a freeze and that I had to power off.

I'll let know about the games.

Finished the download and booted up on my Thinkpad T40, 1.5ghz (though I was running from battery, so the system underclocked itself to ~600mhz), 512mb RAM, Radeon 7500, 1gb swap.

Doom 1 ran fairly smoothly with 3D. I had never played Doom in real 3D, it was kind of cool. The music sounded a little different than I remember, but I think it's stored as a MIDI, so that is to be expected.

Tux Racer also ran smoothly. I didn't really get to anything else, because I got drawn into Doom and wasted all my free time yesterday.

Great collection!
