I'll have a look. It's in the back of my brain somewhere that someone encountered this before. Have you tried with Firelog?

Haven't tried your Grafpup before, Nathan, so decided to give this one a spin with 512Mb main/200Mb dedicated swap drive.
Very slow to boot up with massive detentes at 'loading kernel modules', something to do with network detection(I don't do DHCP) and, finally, I gave up waiting for Xorg to start up on GeF2/400-64.
Any comment?
In XVESA, had the same problem as jcoder24. Tried Firelog - nothing happened.
Logout is not so much non-functional but causes lock-up.

Hi Nathan,

Any chance you're going to publish the devx related to this? Otherwise several things can't be tested ... like installation of nvidia drivers etc.

For whatever reason, however, I'm happy to say that this pup is the only pup that can run Xorg under qemu / vbox :) Others simply hang during Xorg detection.

cheers!

When I get a little closer to a beta I'll publish it. Shouldn't take too long to put together since most of the binary packages are not being upgraded. But I'll have to swap out the kernel source.

I know I'm late in replying but I'll comment quick on the other things mentioned. Firewall has just been revamped, which is explained on my blog. I'm running the latest iptables now with a much simplified startup script (of my own making) and everything seems fine so far as I can tell.

Without further information I can't say anything about the slow bootup. To diagnose would require letting it boot the rest of the way and then looking in /var/log/messages to try and determine where it is hanging. I don't encounter anything like what Sage described, although I don't doubt the problem, but then again I have wierd issues with kernels out of several recent Puppy versions. But anyway, not much anyone can say without having a look at a log file.

Second alpha due pretty soon.

Thanks. Take your time - no worries.

Quick ones:
1. System installer doesn't work for frugal install. Manual tuning of menu.lst is required to get it to work. I think this is an old problem existing in 2.xx puppy series, I recalled Barry fixed this around 3.0 or 3.01
2. User Manager - creating a new user work - but with the wrong password. Once the password is manually fixed (login as root, then use "passwd username" to change it) - everything seems to work.

Alpha2 is uploaded, see release announcement. Still some bugs to fix (including the two in the last post by jamesbond, sorry) but it's moving steadily in the right direction.
