The dotpup program could be edited to create a .pup.tar.gz file which it would recognize and unzip and run as well as normal .pup files.

I think it would be easier to modify the program than to try to get the rest of the web to recognize .pup at this time. ( maybe in the future)

I think I have seen someone at the "Additional Software (PUPs, n' stuff)" forum using this script on his website to host a dotpup and post the link here... there should be many similar scripts out there (I think) ...

Filename extensions are easy to cope with. It could be very simple: i've seen a popular site that lets you download a file using one kind of extension and reminds you to change the extension before using the file.

As to uploading, there are many scripts for doing so. The usual precaution is to screen files for malicious programs. The script at http://ph-islands.net/example allows uploading of HTM. TXT, and image files, but this is easy to change to accommodate PUP or other types.
