Looks interesting. Yes, I have the SDL and QT. I thought this was the kernel used - not sure. Maybe it's not meant to run in Nop 4.0 r1? See screenshots.

Type:

Code: Select all

cat /etc/issue
that will show the kernel version.

Also, could you verify the md5sum of the .pet?

I got a matching checksum, but the list of dependencies is too long for the screen. Appears in the Utilities menu but does nothing. Terminal does not find virtualbox. No problem - some other day ;-)

Here is the icon from VBox Win 1.6.0.
You may prefer it to the Linux one, I do.

First off, WolfPup, muchos gracias for the package, brilliant! I've gotten Mac OS X, Xp and vista to run just fine (OS X is quirky, but mswin is spot on)..... the one problem i've had, is that i can seem to find anywhere to change where/if it logs...currently the pkg logs to root, and these files gain space quickly... I've quickly rtfm and ive googled a bit, but still have had no luck, i was wondering if anyone else had run into this?

eg.

HI El, I read some where on virtualbox forum that it is a known bug and you can change a line to stop logging till it gets sorted. Sorry don't know exactly where
Cheers

I installed VirtualBox 1.64 using the three pets. I used ROX-Filer to install the pets and wasn't given an option where to install, so the VirtualBox app ended up on the windows partition under root.

I was able to place the virtual disk on a second partition I created (but instead of the recommended 10 G, I allocated only 3, because the whole partition only has 9 gig).

That all seemed to be fine.

My question is can I use VirtualBox to boot my existing WinXP installation on hda1 as a guest OS or do I need to do a second install using my original WinXP CD (saving the system files on the new 3 gig Virtual Disk on my new 9 gig ext3 partition)?

I saw a thread on the Ubuntu forums discussing this and mentioning that it is possible, but required using a pseudo mbr instead of the usual VirtualBox bootloader.

Thanks for the update Wolf_Pup.. I'm happy to get the updated VirtualBox however I have some errors. I'm still using Puppy 3.01 with SDL 1.2.9 and QT3.3.8. I read the update on VirtualBox's site and they meantioned using QT4.0 which I may just make a pet of if one isn't made all ready. anyway here is the dependency report.

Code: Select all

These dependencies required by virtualbox-2.0.0_k2.6.21.7 package are missing:
File /opt/VirtualBox-2.0.0/kchmviewer has these missing library files:
 libVBoxQtCore.so.4 libVBoxQtCore.so.4
File /opt/VirtualBox-2.0.0/VBoxREM.so has these missing library files:
 VBoxVMM.so VBoxRT.so
File /opt/VirtualBox-2.0.0/VBoxXPCOMIPCD has these missing library files:

 VBoxXPCOM.so
File /opt/VirtualBox-2.0.0/VBoxManage has these missing library files:

The PETget package manager does not know what package/s has/have these libraries.

Users really should be able to delete their own posts in case of duplicate posting, Then messages like this one could be avoided.

@stevenbinion

I use a similar setup (Pup 3.02 - SDL - QT3) and I downloaded the VirtualBox 2.0 binary from the website. I installed it and had no problems.

I do not have any of the QT 4 dependencies that you listed. Here is the file I installed from:
