D-Link DWL-G630 rev. C2 (solved) |
|
This wireless PCMCIA card works with Ubuntu 5.10 which I have running on a IBM Thinkpad 600.
lshw shows that the driver being used by Ubuntu is ath_pci since this card has Atheros chipset.
I tried loading the ath_pci module in PuppyLinux 4, but the card isn't recognized. I even set the bootmanager to load the module but no good.
I have PuppyLinux 4 running on a Toshiba 2065CDS laptop which does support Cardbus technology though the chipset is apparently proprietary.
Any ideas on what I should try next?
edit:
I needed to go into the BIOS and set the PCMCIA detection from Auto-detection to Cardbus/16-bit. Thanks to another post by ewohilfarth.

The ath_pci module is generally quite reliable. I have a suspicion your Cardbus interface may be at fault.
Check if the PCMCIA system recognises your device with these 2 commands -
| Code: | cardctl status
cardctl ident |
If you can't see the card listed, try resetting the Cardbus interface, as explained here -

Yep, it looks like this Toshiba's Cardbus isn't working.
The 16-bit SMC Ethernet card is recognized instantly.
I guess I am out of luck, or I would have to stick with the 16-bit cards which limits me to 802.11b.

Sorry, I originally suggested using the "pccardctl" utility, but this is only relevant from Puppy ver 4.1.
The correct pcmcia utility prior to Puppy4.1 is "cardctl". I have just edited my earlier post.
It appears that the Thinkpad 600 should have a 32bit Cardbus interface -

I'm sorry if I was a bit confusing in my post.
I have PuppyLinux 4 running on a Toshiba 2065CDS and the Thinkpad 600 has the Ubuntu 5.10.
According to the Toshiba spec, this laptop should support 3.3V Cardbus but it doesn't very well even in Windows 98.
As a further check, I put in two 3Com Ethernet cards, one that is Cardbus and one that isn't. Both I know works in Linux. pccardctl sees only the non-Cardbus card.
Anyway, thanks for your help. Sometimes it isn't Linux, but is the hardware.
By the way, how do I get the sounds for inserting/removing PCMCIA cards?

DLink DWL-G530 H/W ver:E1 , F/W ver:5.0 Subject description: wireless cardbus adapter not recognised |

Sorry,I know this is an old thread but I've a similar wireless cardbus adapter which I couldn't get it to work in Classic Pup 214X-TOP9 (but it was working fine in WinXP). I'd greatly appreciate any help, being quite a Linux noob.
Edit: Glad to report that tempestuous had solved my problem. But facing another one where the same wireless pcmcia card adapter wasn't even detected by Legacy OS2.
