Remember this is for older pc's, optional printing package, Audio with Xmms, No Video player, and Siag Office replaces abiword/gnumeric.
Opera version Notes
removed hv3 browser
removed netsurf
added updated icons
added newer blinky
removed 1 large theme
removed top
added htop
added LX taskmanager
added pburn
added Opera 10.10 and gave it a normal browser layout
removed ffmpeg
added jwm2 and themes
added Gtk2 theme switcher2
Previous smaller release below
Ok, a forum member had a problem, His old pc couldn't run dingo and puppy 3 ran great! but abiword was slow and he liked the look of puppy 4.0, What a tall list
Anyways after 4-5 days working on it I came up with this.
Basically I removed a lot of programs, But the Main programs removed are
Printing and all of the related Printing software
Abiword
InkscapeLite
Gxine
Games
Gnumeric
SeaMonkey
But I did install Siag Office, It was only a 1MB or so extra Smile
-Abiword=PW
-Gnumeric=Siag
Plus I installed / Changed
-Xmms with wma audio support
-Gslapt for all your Slackware needs
-Updated Pfind
-Hv3 web browser
-Netsurf web browser
-Galculator the Calculator
-5 Really small but fun games
-Siag Office cutdown
-Osmo
-Sylpheed Email
Change around 90% of the Original visible icons. and made rox and JWM look similar to Puppy 4.0, Actually I think it looks a bit better Smile
Plus I added Volume mixer,Galculator, Pfind to the left-hand side of the taskbar Smile
This would be great for an older PC or Newer, If you wanted a nice base to add your favorite web browser/Media Player and full Inkscape to.
It runs nice and fast Smile

older pc
This looks good! I'll be trying it out this week. I put firehydrant 3.01 (233mb version) onto a friends old Thinkpad and he is very impressed. Maybe this will solve the problem of occasional slowdowns. The laptop can only have a maximum of 256mb RAM....
Thanks for this Ttuuxxx

Hi I just found out that netsurf won't do downloads, So hold back on downloading this version, I'll work on it tomorrow:)
I've also made a printer pet package so you can add a printer to this version. Just install the single pet.
Also I made another version of this old abiword that will take over Siag PW defaults.
Like default word processor on the desktop and menu.
ttuuxxx
I'll upload the new programs and fix the broken browser tomorrow morning.

Ehm... what about a new Fire Hydrants Inferno based on Dingo 4.0 or 4.1
Paolo
Well when it comes to "Inferno" It takes a big flame to get that beast going, LOL
Actually I was waiting a bit for puppy 4.0 to mature a bit, It has a few problems That I would like to see sorted before Making the next "Inferno" Butttttt every time I make a release, a part of it will be put into Inferno, Like I'm also working on "Living Water" Right Now. well I managed to make a kde&Gnome applications working together on it. Both can run at the same time:)
Plus I already made up the latest K3B so you can see how that part of living water will go into "Inferno" Just like some of the new graphics from this one will go in it.
Once I'm finished Living water I'll start package/building/collecting for "Inferno" and this time there will be full printing/k3b/window shares included
But if you have any special apps you like there is a forum just for "Inferno" at my website.

well thanks for your praises.

feedback
Hi, quick bit of feedback. I tried this version. Looks nice, but I missed having a fully featured web browser....realise this is a major way of saving space but since I'm used to full version of firefox (like most people I imagine) it was a bit of a shock to have no tabs etc.
We got broadband this week Now using inferno on my desktop machine and enjoying it very much. Just installing the 301 FH retro on a pentium III.
Thanks again for Fire Hydrant.
Cheers
Leon
edit - will have to this lite version on a machine like the one it is written for....and then see how it performs! what processor and ram is your friend's laptop?
does this version have the toshiba laptop fix we discussed previously? if so it would go well on my toshiba notepad - PII 128mb ram.....

Basically this version is the most basic version for extreme older pc's that run slow, Kind of an alternative to Mean Pup, I'll upload the the printer drivers today sometime on my other pc.
Don't forget your free to install Opera, Firefox etc. I'm not much for those 2 browsers either, I do like the way I hacked the Hv3 browser homepage, the original one was really bad all about hv3 stuff and I couldn't change it to another homepage, So I made the quick links.

Fire Hydrant
Hi ttuuxxx
Yeah, I will have to try it on a slow pc. Did you manage to include the fix for toshiba laptops? Would like to see how it does on that. And I will test it on a more appropriate machine - ie PII or slower. I must confess I go for PIII or faster and get kind of spoilt with a variety of machines to play with. Will see if I can resurrect some really slow pcs....

toshiba laptop with fire hydrant ultra lite
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 522#188522
on the page there is a link to download 'Cure_for_hanging-probe_laptops.tar.gz'
I did download it and so will upload if necessary should something not work. If you are able to compile it (I understand it only works after a remaster) I would like to try it. Dingo is working fine on the notepad in question - I am using it now and like it because it is virtually silent - but I have a partition waiting for FH (will wait for the 4 series FH maybe - the fix is already included in Dingo.
Cheers

Re: toshiba laptop with fire hydrant ultra lite
I'll include the fix in this version when I update it in a day or two, I'm just not happy with the 2 browser, I would like a small browser that renders css very quickly and downloads properly.recycler wrote:http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 522#188522

it's done
Got the toshiba laptop fix tarball. Unzipped it according to the instructions into the root directory on a frugal install of retrolite on another machine. Copied files across to my toshiba notepad and I was able to start retrolite and get past the hanging video probing bit. Hurray! Thanks ttuuxxx for all the effort you have put into creating this version and for sharing it!
update - now running firefox3.0 and thunderbird with the icewm theme in black and red (thanks Ttuuxxx)
All working well

Hey ttuuxxx,
Given the issues involved with Siag office, I'm wondering if there are any other good options for word processing and spreadsheets. I like the Abiword that you tweaked, but both that and Gnumeric are a little big for what's trying to be accomplished with this distro (IMO).
I'm wondering if the QT apps that you just tweaked up for 214X might serve here. I don't know enough about the dependency issues, kernel issues, etc. but I thought I'd ask the question.
I know siag doesn't work on any distro or computer I've tried it on (not in any way I'd call useable at any rate), so I'm looking for other options. For me, personally, any text editor that will give basic word processing functions and safe to rtf would work for a 'lite' distro. Spreadsheets could be fairly simple too, I would think.
Anyway, just wanted to put that out there while I was thinking about it.

Siag Office
I use siag in a different distro (Vector Light). It just about works but I use something else if I have the chance; for a start it seems you have to press the function keys twice and / or hard to get it to do anything.
IMO it's strictly for old and low-resource machines only.
