No sound: what's my next step?

#1 Post by lewis1711 »

Alright, so typing

Code: Select all

aplay -l
on my puppy linux system gives the exact same chipset numbers as it does on my ubuntu system (which is checking the ALSA website confirms is correct for my hardware as well).

The only difference is, ubuntu actually plays sound.

I have turned the volume up using alsa-mixer.

Where to from here then?

I also have a soundcard driver on my motherboard cd for linux. It ends in .run (I know *nix doesn't use extensions but it might be a clue).

I am seriously a bit lost. Installing drivers in MS was just a point and click affair, which means I have no idea how this actually works.

Any pointers?

Please update your specs.

That way I am not tempted to direct mindless sarcasm at you.
And then if you you do have a fix..please return back...
tell us, and then mark your post as solved.

Will try contacting Mandrake for an opinion of your specs.

But look at this Ubuntu poster....Now here is a brave heart.

So how about clearing the slate..not too late
Give us some specs..so's we won't be vexed.

Chris has a point: it's not good form to ask for help without revealing the hardware and Puppy version in question.
But since alsamixer will launch we can see that an audio device is recognised and ALSA drivers loaded.

Yes, but is the master channel muted? Press "m" to mute/unmute.
