Fuzzy Q on mixing install types & versions

#1 Post by aahhaaa »

I'm still a leetle fuzzy on how the various config files are related...

I have 1.0.5 on my main machine with all the downloaded dotpups, etc and that is set up now as a hard drive install (it asks me no questions on boot).

If I boot with 1.0.6 in the CD drive, will it mess up the .5 pup001 file?
or something?... (I know; its not winders)

any procedures you'd recommend?

yes.
If you want to run 106, your pup001 is "converted".
Most of your configuration still works, but for example .xinitrc is replaced with a new one.
And the menues are exchanged and more.

If you still want to use 105 afterwards, make a copy or rename it.

You used to be able to choose the boot option not to use the hard drive (I think that's now in the boot option 3 submenu) and the CD would boot without looking for the pup001 file or "updating" it. Is that no longer the case?
