Have you downloaded the latest source and set it up?

Wolf Pup has just updated his .pet so you could download that.

Geow
I installed the _74 and saw that a couple of minutes later a _75 is uploaded now.

Will try the _75

Béèm,

Version 0.5.0-75 is the one with the file transfer fix.

Yes, Sid fixes things very quickly and Wolf Pup makes them downloadable almost as soon as they are available.

Good Luck! Please let us know your results.

So installed the _075
My yahoo correspondent came online.
I can sent him a file. He gets the windows to accept the file.
(I think he was in pidgin)
And the file is received correctly.
Then I asked him to sent me a file.
He can see he has the request for accepting the file.
But I don't get a window to accept the file.
So file xfer to me don't work.

Yahoo File transfer

#25 Post by GeoW »

Yo Béèm,

To repeat my previous post:
Béèm,

Siddhesh reports that yahoo file transfer now works and he will look
at MSN next.

Note: he says send and receive work with Kopete, but Ayttm cannot
receive files sent by Pidgin because Pidgin has a bug in sending.

Sorry GeoW
Forgot about that restriction.
Will ask my correspondent to use another IM program.
Don't know which other one has.

Could have thought about that before
Made a second userid in yahoo, so I can test with myself, having two PC's.
So the linux machines runs the _75, The XP PC Pidgin and Miranda.
Both have the same behavior, I can sent to the XP PC, but can't sent to the Linux PC.

And now the cherry on the cake.
In XP I use qemu for testing of linux distros.
So I have a Dingo 407 and installed the _75
I can sent from the virtual Dingo 407 perfectly.
When I sent from the linux PC to the virtual Dingo 407, I get the permission for receiving panel, then the selection panel for the save location, but there I get a freeze.
Maybe this isn't linked to the ayttm _75 sw.

So conclusion, Pidgin isn't the only one where sent doesnt work.

Yo Béèm,

I passed your comments to Sid and he has replied already:

Well it's a little more complicated than that actually. Pidgin is
capable of two methods of file sending -- version 15 compatible (the
latest protocol) as well as the old one. The latest protocol support
works fine but the old one is broken. The fix is actually just a byte
long ;) I had posted the bug report and fix on Pidgin as soon as I had
done our commit.

We're still on the old protocol in Ayttm, so we're not able to receive
with Pidgin. Using the new protocol only for file transfer also
doesn't seem to work. Unfortunately, this also means that with
messengers that use the new protocol by default, we won't be able to
exchange files.

Siddhesh

I am afraid I must drop out - this is all beyond me - so I can only
carry messages. I will do that until it gets me shot.

Well it's pretty clear.
There are two protocols for file xfer. An old one an a new one.
Ayttm uses the old one and can't therefor communicate with IM programs using the new one.
Per default Pidgin uses the new one.
I don't know, but it might that Miranda uses the new one also.
So in that case Miranda fails to communicate with ayttm as well;

And by bad luck, the old one of Pidgin is broken.
Sid has advised the Pidgin people.
As I saw a new version of Pidgin is available, I'll download and try in case the bug in the old protocol is repaired.

Remains the question, how about Pidgin in Puppy.

Altho Ayttm is lighter, it seems to be behind at the file xfer protocol, so I wonder if it is finally a good choice to have Ayttm.

Maye Sid will add the new protocol as well.

So wait and see then.

Thanks for your intervention.

Béèm,

You are welcome.

I will pass your latest comments to Sid as soon as I finish writing this.

I actually signed up on Yahoo in hopes that I could help. I think I was
successful, but I cannot get a list of chatrooms. So, Ayttm will sign me
on to Yahoo, but I have no idea where to go from there.

OK just to fill you in.
I downloaded and installed the latest Pidgin, 2.5 and got the same problem.
I'll see if I can make a bug report in Pidgin. Have to find out how it works.

If you are still there in an hour or two, we can do a test in yahoo.
I have something to do now.

GeoW,
So you have a yahoo account and are signed in with Ayttm.
Go in edit then add a contact account.
In account give it a name
In local account choose yahoo
In contact mercierb

If all goes well, I'll probably get an invite to accept you.

I have discovered another issue, which for international users might be a show-stopper. The issue is that there are problems with national language characters (accented)
When used, they are not displayed correctly.
I did following tests between linux versions and XP versions.
Pidgin <-> Pidgin no problem
Pidgin <-> Miranda no problem
Ayttm -> Pidgin or Miranda, they shows unreadable characters
Ayttm <- Pidgin or Miranda, Ayttm replaces the accented character by ?

In the preferences of Ayttm, I don't see a possibility to set the character set.

File xfer

#38 Post by Béèm »

I installed another virtual PC in qemu with kubuntu.
I tried to do file xfer with kopete 0.50.1
From ayttm to kopete, ok
From kopete to ayttm, the file xfer doesn't start, and no acceptance for receiving seen on the ayttm side.

Ayttm - File Transfer, Accented Chars

#39 Post by GeoW »

Yo Béèm,

I have forwarded your latest findings re: file transfer to Siddhesh as he
has been working on this.

I have added your comments about accented characters, along with
some tests of my own to the Ayttm bug tracking system.
