I'm curious about this...which individual sane package did you install? Reason I'm curious is that, AFAIK, the pup3 package, sane-1.0.18.pet, doesn't install /etc/sane.d, whereas the pup2 package, sane_backends-1.0.17.pet, does. |

Erm, yes, this the part when I start feeling unsure of myself 
I did install sane_backends-1.0.17.pet, in fact, I used your link. I'm pretty certain of that because this is the second time I used your instructions and the first time I saved the pets to my hard drive so I just used them again. Sigh, I don't like being wrong. I don't know what went wrong last time, but I guess I must have installed sane-1.0.18.pet instead of sane_backends-1.0.17.pet. I did a fresh install on a clean puppy and all went well and sane.d appeared. Sorry for any trouble Muggins, thanks for putting up with a noob

Ttuuxx- You are just the bomb, I swear. I've used a couple of your other packages in the past and they installed/ performed flawlessly. Tonight I got the sane backend and Xsane scanner packages from this thread- 2 quick dloads- clicked on them and now my puppy 3.01/ HP Scanjet 4300c rig is scanning like a fool. Thanks for your part in making puppy such a tremendous distro! Best regards- arawn |
