Re: Hangman: Gtk version of Hangman game for pup4
hey muggins that needs to be place in zigberts 1mb or less games thread he has on here.muggins wrote:http://aykut-ozdemir.blogspot.com/
I've uploaded a .pet here(1070kbytes) hangman-1.0.pet
Also it should be included in the default puppy release, due to its size just try to shave it down a bit like 71kb lol I could see a lot of people liking it..

I did compress most things as much as possible but, now that you mention it, I might be able to find a few things to get it down by 70k.
By the way ttuuxxx, when you mention getting 10 in a row, if you check the images that come with each word, I've got a feeling the game is aimed at a particular age group...nudge nudge.

I've had a look at the program. the binary delivered in the sources is staically linked which accounts for most of the size. I didn't have good luck at getting the sources to compile, but perhaps someone else would have netter luck. That should shave about 900KB off the size...
Meanwhile I kept looking for hangman and found an SDL version which may be more universal.

@Amigo,
most of the overhead is in the included graphics. In the .pet I uploaded the binary uses shared libraries, and only weighs in at 48kbytes. After I've stripped & upx'ed it's only 16k.
Are you going to upload the SDL version?
Edit: I just thought that maybe the binary is showing as static as it's been compressed with upx

What about an ncurses version, for those not suffering CLI-phobia?
Just extract to /, and run by entering hangit

This one is tcl-based. To reduce the size, I've removed the newer .gif icons, and kept the smaller originals, plus made it into a makeself self-extracting gzipped program.
Just extract to / & run by entering hangman
N.B. If you're using pup4, then you would need to install the pup3 tcl & tk .pets from the puppy ibiblio repository.

Sorry, Muggins -I think I got confused about which program I was talking about. Thanks for finding the others you posted about.
Here's a link to the one I found, which seems to be pretty nice. Yopu have to provide some sort of word list for it. I just used one of the lists from the aspell dictionary.

@Amigo,
I forgot about the ShiftyGames hangman game. I somehow thought I did a .pet of it, but a forum search finds nada...I must have got sidetracked by something else.
Anyway, I've now uploaded it in this thread.
