VIA_RHINE II problems also

#1 Post by pbnation »

hello here is my config
T5525 (hp thin client)
witch have RHINE II fast Ethernet network cards at eth0

when I use the ifconfig on my puppy:
-----------------------------------puppy 2.14----------------------------------------------------
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:16:35:7D:94:65
inet addr:192.168.0.101 Bcast:192.168.0.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
UP BROADCAST NOTRAILERS RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1

TX packets:4383 errors:8 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
RX bytes:3367877 (3.2 MiB) TX bytes:854148 (834.1 KiB)
Interrupt:11 Base address:0xe400

lo Link encap:Local Loopback
inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0
UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1
RX packets:15 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:15 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
RX bytes:1446 (1.4 KiB) TX bytes:1446 (1.4 KiB)
-------------------------------------end of puppy ifconfig -------------------------------------

As you imagine, this is a real problems, i do have try the network wizard, but it is not solving the problems. My network cable/interface is really perfect. When I try the ping command I get this:

PING 192.168.0.1 (192.168.0.1): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 192.168.0.1: icmp_seq=1 ttl=127 time=3.2 ms
64 bytes from 192.168.0.1: icmp_seq=2 ttl=127 time=632.8 ms
64 bytes from 192.168.0.1: icmp_seq=3 ttl=127 time=182.7 ms
64 bytes from 192.168.0.1: icmp_seq=4 ttl=127 time=100.6 ms
64 bytes from 192.168.0.1: icmp_seq=5 ttl=127 time=458.4 ms

So I do have make a lot of workaround about this, check the network card...
I do have try DSL on my machine to compare the data (linux kernel 2.4)

I do have try to change the MTU using :

Anybody have an IDEA about fixing this issue ?
scuze-me about providing a very long post, but everything is there (I think !)

------------------also------------------------------------------------------
When I do have finished to post this article I have found another thing wich is very funny. When I put an adress in the brower and hit enter (like www.google.com), the web page will never load if I don't move the mouse !

I do have a USB mouse (logitech) witch is very common.

so I think that my network card is loading IRQ11 (at the very early stage of the boot process, and confusion appear in the kernel with USB mouse at the end)

so anybody has an idea (without changing my mouse I know that)

Thanks for any suggestions

Hardware error?

#2 Post by palden »

Noticed the large number of dropped packets.

Pinging own internal netwrok address should be quick and fast.

Maybe a hardware issue? or a driver compatibility issue?

Maybe a diagnotic tool to check the network card?

For 'old times' sake, can you please post a reply how it's solved

 Pal
