I'm able to use this card fine if I insert it after puppy has booted, but If I try to start up with this card inserted the boot up hangs at "detecting Modem"

Me too!
Funny thing is that 4.1 finds it and it works when I boot from liveCD. But after HD install it wouldn't work. I have been trying everything until I saw your post. I popped it out then back in and presto there it was working.

Even funnier, this is the second time that I have installed 4.1. Previously, I was able to get it to work some other way but I'll be damned if I can remember how I did it! Stupid me I decided that I wanted Puppy 2.03CE and HD installed that but then decided that I wanted to come back to 4.1. I guess that I should have partitioned so that I could have my choice.
