i'm testing last version of firepup in puppy 4.0. it goes fast. I've a question. I tried to play some java games online it says i've to install java plugin. Why Seamonkey can run it without installing java and Firepup not?
I still have Seamonkey...is there a way to let Firepup run java?

Ttuuxxx will know more than me on this, but i had trouble with flash when i installed FF3 and DIDN'T import my preferences from SeaMonkey on my first startup of FF. When i uninstalled FF3 and re-installed, choosing to import my prefs, etc., from SeaMonkey, all was fine in the world of web. It may be a similar problem--??

What I've read about built in java script for firefox 1-1.5 series is that it can't handle it. you need to install java, But i'm looking into it:)
But I do have is a version of FirePup 3.0.3 that hasn't been released and works very fast on puppy also, But my whole Idea was to support just one vesion and the 1.5 was offering a great puppy experience so I have no clue which version to stick by? any ideas?

ttuuxx,

First of all, before i discuss this, i think Firepup is truly a fantastic idea and perfect for puppy. So much, that i'm using it in my puplet eeZos.

eeZos is being developed as web puplet so the browser is essential to the running of the puplet. The idea of the puplet is to give the users the ability to use web 2.0 apps instead of built in linux apps.

The problem i find with using the current firepup is that alot of these web 2 apps (e.g. google docs) can only use the firefox >2 architecture and therefore stop you using them if they detect firefox 1.5.

I don't know what firepup 3.0.3 is as i can't get any info on the forums. But can i really urge you to think about upgrading to a higher version of firefox.

I know that 1.5 was the fastest and the lightest. I know that version 2 was truly awful and i also know the issues with version 3 and that stupid database file that fills up root.

And i also realise this would be a huge task for you, but my concern is that more and more sites are going to force users to use firefox 2 and above as more and more sites are moving to web 2.0 assisting software.

Hi thanks for the nice feedback. I have Google docs working on 1.5
try this url
http://docs.google.com/?browserok=true
you just needed to put "?browserok=true" at the end of the url, But yes you make a valid point, People should need to come to me for a answers on viewing websites, It should just be automatic. I'll see what I can do :) but meanwhile do you have any other sites with issues?

Ttuuxx,

Thanks for looking into this.

I beleive hotmail has the same issue as well.

I'm sure it must be some server side javascript. If i remember from my web deisgn days, we use to try and instantiate an object that was only found in the new browser not in the old. If successful, then we could assume it was the latest browser.

Thanks,

n4l

I just tried hotmail and it works, Just read the page, it says, if you want to continue using this browser some features might not work, just click on it and 100% of the features work :)

The phrase 'user agent spoofing' comes to mind......

Someone here had the same response on hotmail but yet we couldn't see any 'lack' of features on firefox 1.5.
Annoying how the goalposts keep being moved for no reason on the web...same goes for 'flash 9' content which has simply been exported that way but actually could run as flash 7 and often does lol.

my 2 cents worth

ttuuxxx- I've noticed that while at amazon.com in the mp3 download section, when I click on an arrow to the side of the song that allows you to listen to a tidbit of the song, firepup won't play the song. If I close firepup and open seamonkey and go to the same song, it plays. ???

I had a look and it works, but did you notice the flash play symbol? you need to click that to enable flash first on the player then it works:)
or go to tool/extensions and disable "FlashBlock" by right clicking on it and selecting disable, then do the same to re-enable it :)

You're absolutely right. I've been wondering what that "f" was everywhere, I thought it was an advertisement for Fedora or something. Thanks....

Thats a flash blocking plugin which is included in FirePup, It will speed up your surfing by a great deal, plus flash and puppy is a hit miss thing, so if you say go to youtube where you have like 10 flash items wanting to run at once, it will slow down your video watching etc, If you only need 1 flash it turn, why view 10? it takes a lot of resources to view 1 flash item, also another extension I've been using lately is no-script, boy does that work wonders, sometimes I can open this forum up in 1.5 seconds. But the downfall with no-script is when your posting images or urls in the forum you can't get the /url /img to work right. But I'm working on that one :)

it's funny but i can run Firepup ( i saw tar.gz linkin your post on mozillazine :D ) without installing it
i just unpacked and cliked on FF link

so it can be placed outside puppy ( even one can make an sfs and "hotmount" it when needed)

yes all that works with all firefox's, they are static. So go ahead and make your sfs :)

I only have two gripes about Firepup.
1. When I go to Facebook pages, the applications toolbar will load on the lower left hand corner of the window, but the chat and notifications won't load on the lower right (does the same thing in Seamonkey, but not in Firefox 2 or 3 or in Opera.) Does it have to do with the Firefox 1 architecture that someone mentioned was causing problems with Google Docs?
For some reason, I can't get it not to show the text under the icons. I tried to switch to show only icons in the toolbar config menu, but it still shows the text.
Other than that, I find it difficult surfing with anything other than Firepup anymore because of how fast Firepup is. Thank you for this jewel, and please keep up the good work.

Hi with the facebook thing, Did you try to disable flashblock? click tools/extensions, right click on flashblock and select disable, Then try the webpage, if it didn't work try resetting the browser and then trying it, Don't forget to re-enable flashblock when your finished :)
ttuuxxx
Ps Glad you enjoy it :), as do I

Disabling flashblock didn't help. What do you mean by reseting the browser? I exited after disabling the flashblock, but it didn't help.
